It has been a massive period for Coco Gauff and her team. She recently made several changes to her coaching staff and received criticism for the same in the middle of the season. However, Gauff, along with her coaches, has silenced the critics as she recently won the US Open. It was her maiden Grand Slam title and a special one because it came in front of her home fans.

As a result of her victory, one of her coaches came into the limelight. He was also Andre Agassi’s former coach on whom Roger Federer’s compatriot,  Martina Hingis made a strange statement once. Before his success with Gauff, Brad Gilbert helped improve Andre Agassi’s game by leaps and bounds. The two had a successful partnership during which the American star became a force to reckon with. After his coaching partnership with American legend Agassi, Gilbert also had a brief coaching stint with Hingis. The latter once talked about the basic tips she received from the legendary coach.

Talking about Gilbert, Hingis once said, “Everything he told me, my mother had already said to me years ago.” Their partnership lasted for just two weeks in 1996. However, Hingis had a successful season in the following year where she won all but the French Open Grand Slam title.

Despite their brief stint, Gilbert was all praise for Hingis. He revealed that the Swiss icon was a gifted player and had a very high tennis IQ for her age. Gilbert’s partnership with Gauff has received massive attention, especially after the latter’s US Open victory. Recently, Gauff’s coach, Pere Riba talked about Gilbert’s influence on the American sensation.

Following Gauff’s US Open victory, her coach, Pere Riba was involved in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. During that talk, he opened up about the influence of Gilbert’s experience on the young American talent. Riba said, “Well, Brad is working like a consultant. He is helping to give some advices from outside. It’s really positive to have Brad. He is a guy who has a lot of experience. “

Due to Gilbert’s age, he may not be able to travel with Gauff in all the tournaments. Nonetheless, the legendary coach will continue to have a positive impact on her as she aims to ride on her US Open success.
