ATP stars paid their tributes to some of the legendary WTA players on the occasion of Women’s Day. Among these male tennis players, the fraternity spotted two very influential prodigies, who dropped the names of two WTA legends as their choices. One of these ATP players is Spain’s brilliant Carlos Alcaraz and the other one is Russia’s Daniil Medvedev. While Alcaraz surprised his fans by picking the legendary Olympic gold-medalist tennis star, Serena Williams, Medvedev focused on his country’s legacy bearer in tennis, Maria Sharapova.

They not only picked their choice but revealed their exclusive reasons behind it. Following their reasons, the tennis fraternity again remembered the old Williams-Sharapova rivalry. Recently, the official Instagram page of the ATP Tour shared a bunch of clips, where fans spotted some renowned ATP names like Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Gael Monfils spilling the names of the women who inspired their lives. In this clip, fans saw the Spanish tennis prodigy, Alcaraz, picking Serena Williams’s name.

Alcaraz said- “I’m going to go for Serena, everything that she have done in tennis, in life. And she came from a really humble life, family. It’s admirable. So I’m going to pick her.” Alcaraz’s choice surprised his fans. To date, they believed it was Roger Federer primarily and then Nadal and Djokovic who inspired the Spaniard. Now they also added Serena Williams’s name to the list.

While Serena Williams’s name was highly anticipated, Sharapova was also brought up by her country’s lead name and Australian Open 2024 finalist, Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev said- “It’s going to be Maria Sharapova. First of all, such a great tennis player. She has a great energy around her. I like some of the comments she was doing during her career.” Medvedev’s reasons touched on all the qualities of the legendary Sharapova to celebrate her womanhood.

Along with Medvedev and Alcaraz, many ATP pros chose their mothers on this Women’s Day for their contributions. Such a humble attitude of these players delighted fans’ hearts.

Famous ATP players remember their inspirational mothers on Women’s Day

From Tiafoe to Andy Murray, ATP stars revealed the names they wish to pay tribute to on its Women’s Day. The list contained famous Hollywood actors like Viola Davis, to famous WTA players like Coco Gauff. Some tennis players also picked their wives and partners. However, some famous names started their list of tributes with their mothers. Novak Djokovic was spotted speaking about his mother’s inspirations in his life. Djokovic said- “My mum for the first part, most part of my life.” 

Italian tennis prodigy Jannik Sinner said- “I admire my mum because she has done so many things for me. Lot of motivation and, yeah, she is my hero.” Fans also spotted Gael Monfils saying- “Number one admiration and inspiration is my mum. All sacrifice she made for my brother and I. Everything that actually she keep doing to help me raise my daughter. 

Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev’s choice brought fans back the old Serena Williams-Maria Sharapova rivalry. Along with that, tennis players who chose their mothers also received a huge shoutout from the fans.
