Novak Djokovic has made a name for himself in the past couple of years. Even though he was a part of the Big 3, even before that along with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, comparatively he had fewer fans. But with time, his numbers went up and even surpassed Roger and Rafael on some levels.
His instinct to be better than everyone else and become the GOAT is what brought him this immense fame and success. Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou has a theory that reveals the mindset that Novak may have on conquering the sport like no one else in such less time. And well, we may agree to it as well.

When it comes to numbers in. today’s date, there is no one better than the Serbian tennis star. He has time and again shown that there is no one like him even with his recent US Open 2023 win. Serena’s former coach Patrick seems to have a potential idea about what Novak’s mindset might be behind getting to be the best.
Mouratoglou says the fact that Novak Djokovic had less fans then Roger Federer & Rafa Nadal motivated him to be better:

He said in an interview, “He’s a conqueror & dominator. He loves to prove people wrong. The fact that there were so many fans for the two others and fewer for him that he was not as liked as the two others, I felt that it created in him the will to take revenge one way or the other. The best answer to that is to be undoubtedly better than them in terms of achievement.”
Novak’s aggressive game and playing style surely seem to indicate that Patrick’s call about his mindset might just be true. But surprisingly a lot of tennis fans don’t agree with this point of view about him and feel that this mindset is not the right one to have.
Tennis fans disagree with Patrick’s opinion about Novak’s mindset
Twitter users stormed the tweet about the view Patrick shared. They felt that he was trying to portray Novak’s aggressive attitude in a positive manner which they did not think was right.

One of the Twitter users commented, “That just made him the most hated champion of all time”. People think that since he tries to surpass other champions and mock fans, his attitude is not well received.
And he'll continue to have fewer fans than Rafa and Roger due to the person he is and his need to be a victim in everything.

Another user added, “And he’ll continue to have fewer fans than Rafa and Roger due to the person he is and his need to be a victim in everything”. Tennis fans feel that his dominating aura is what makes him less likable.
However, despite the negativity around the tweet, there were some people who even came to support Djokovic.
