What a year it has been for the Italian sensation, Jannik Sinner. He started this season by winning the Australian Open. Since then, he has been consistent in the tournaments he played, despite the circumstances. And finally, Sinner capped his season with the ATP Finals title, along with the year-end World No.1 trophy. However, his win at Turin might not have surprised the tennis world. But it certainly invoked wondrous feelings from most, including Coco Gauff’s ex-coach, Brad Gilbert.

With his dominant win over Taylor Fritz (6-4,6-4), at the ATP Finals, Sinner claimed his 8th title of the season. Thus, coming to a full circle. Last year, Jannik Sinner could not get past the Big 3 wall, as Novak Djokovic dominated the year-end finals with 6-3,6-3. However, the Italian star certainly turned a leaf from the very beginning of 2024. After claiming the 1st Grand Slam of the season, Sinner went on to win, the ATP Rotterdam, Miami Open, Halle Open, Cincinnati Masters, the US Open, and the Shanghai Masters.

However, this season was not just about the wins, but also about some big controversies coming Sinner’s way. But the Italian remained steadfast in his game throughout the season. And for the cherry on top of the cake, Sinner is the only ATP player since 1986, who won every match in the ATP Finals in straight sets. Hence, Gilbert’s reaction filled with immense respect for the man behind Sinner’s success, his coach, Darren Cahill, is well earned, with absolute domination!

Congratulating the ATP Finals champion, Gilbert posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Tremendous effort from Sin City @janniksin 1st player since 1986 @atptour finals to not drop a set. Absolutely dominating since Cincinnati, I tip my cap to my buddy @darren_cahill what a year”

Before the start of the final match at the ATP Finals, Fritz was issued a warning as he geared up to face the Italian sensation in Italy. It turns out that the former Brit pro was not far from the truth, when he said, “He never really looks off balance, he’s got no real weakness in his game. I don’t know how you even come up with a game plan, but I know Fritz’s coach will be thinking of it.” But it seems to be another learning point for Fritz, as Sinner produced his best tennis to face the American star.

Have an interesting take?

In a sensational atmosphere, with every Italian cheering for him to win, Jannik Sinner showcased them the tennis everyone was hoping for. But, it seems the fans got more than they anticipated. It’s rare to see the calm and composed Sinner accepting that he played at his highest level. Sinner hit 16 winner and 10 aces in the first set itself and took the second set match point on his serve. However, he did accept the fact and seemed content with it during the post-title win interview.

He said, “It’s something very special. It was a very high-level tournament from my side. At times, I couldn’t have played better, so I am very happy.” But it doesn’t mean that there are no points that the Italian star can’t be better. The analytical Sinner already has a few things in mind that he wants to improve. He further added, “It’s been a really good week for me. It’s a good way to end the year and gives me a lot of confidence. I have a good idea of what I need to improve, but I also feel like I’m playing very good tennis.”

An amazing way to conclude the season, a win in front of his nation, his family, and coach, Darren Cahill by his side!
