The wildfires in Pacific Palisades and Malibu have unleashed chaos across Southern California, driven by fierce Santa Ana winds reaching speeds of up to 100 mph. Not only have these fires displaced thousands, but they’ve also created a tense atmosphere in the region. Among those expressing concern are members of the tennis community, including Coco Gauff’s ex-coach Brad Gilbert, who shared heartfelt messages for the affected areas.

Brad Gilbert took to X on 8th January to share his concern over the wildfires. In one of his tweets, he wrote, “So scary what’s happening in LA and Malibu area again. Stay safe and the brave work of brave firefighters.”

He later followed up with another post while on his way to Melbourne, shedding light on the terrifying scale of the disaster. “On the plane now to Melbourne seeing the videos on X it is so scary. What’s happening in Palisades and Malibu, the winds were brutal and unfortunately still are. Anyone know how far up the PCH the fire has gone into Malibu now? Firefighters stay safe.”

Gilbert’s posts reflected the uncertainty and fear surrounding the situation as the wildfire spread rapidly.

The Pacific Palisades wildfire has become a significant environmental and urban crisis, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate their homes. Fueled by relentless Santa Ana winds, the fire has caused widespread devastation across the region. Emergency teams work tirelessly to contain the blaze, using aerial water drops and ground-based efforts to minimize damage.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) has mobilized resources, including specialized units and emergency response teams. The state’s governor has declared a state of emergency to assist the affected areas.

Some other tennis personalities have also expressed their concern.

Apart from Coco Gauff’s ex-coach, Morgan Riddle and Ayan Broomfield share their concerns

Along with Brad Gilbert, Morgan Riddle, the social media star and girlfriend of Taylor Fritz, has also expressed her sadness about the disaster through Instagram stories. Sharing her thoughts, she reposted a post from The New York Times, on her story saying, “The devastation of this in the morning is going to be breathtaking. So much loss.”

In another story, Riddle emphasized the impact of the fires on wild animals and their displacement. She shared a post by @puppyluvia, writing which contained a PSA about wild animals and being kind to them in this chaotic time. The WAG also shared a post from @pawworks, spreading awareness about a rescue facility helping small animals displaced by the fire.

Frances Tiafoe’s girlfriend and Canadian tennis player Ayan Broomfield also weighed in on the disaster. Broomfield shared a story on Instagram showing a sky-view snapshot of the fire. She captioned the image, “What is going on. Praying for everyone in LA right now.

The situation remains dire, with many residents displaced and numerous homes threatened by the advancing flames. Awareness posts like those shared by Riddle and Broomfield aim to highlight the disaster’s broader impact.
