The renowned mentor reflected on Alcaraz’s R3 showdown in the same grass court major event. The Spaniard faced a tough challenge from the American ATP star Frances Tiafoe. The match extended to five sets in which Alcaraz managed to survive, winning 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. Although Alcaraz was considered a one-sided victor in this match, the fierce levels of Tiafoe brought him into a position of doubt.

Soon after securing a slot in the fourth round, Alcaraz praised Tiafoe, saying, “It is always a big challenge playing against Frances. He is a really talented player and tough to face, and we saw it once again.” The Spaniard aimed at admitting to the challenging levels introduced by his rival. He deserves to be at the top and fight for big things. It was really difficult for me to adapt my game, find solutions, and try to put him in trouble, but I am really happy to do it at the end of the match,” he added.

Although the Spaniard was lucky enough to get through, this match could’ve marked an early hindrance to his Wimbledon campaign.
