Is Carlos Alcaraz the new king of tennis, or does Djokovic still reign supreme?

There is so much happening in the sporting world right now, isn’t it? Fans can hardly take their eyes off it as some thrilling action takes place in the tennis and soccer worlds. On one hand, the 2024 Wimbledon Championships will get its men’s singles champion today, soccer fans will witness the Euros final between England and Spain. As a result, the sporting world has been abuzz, with many stalwarts of the game being active on social media. One such star was Coco Gauff’s coach, Brad Gilbert, who made a massive revelation during the ongoing match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

The Spaniard is currently dominating his match against Djokovic, with an eye to win back-to-back Wimbledon titles. Alcaraz won the opening two sets comfortably by a similar margin of 6-2. As a result, he is well-poised to win another Grand Slam trophy and Gilbert took to Twitter to make an interesting admission. After one fan tweeted that Alcaraz might have a plane to catch for Berlin, where his country will take on England in the Euros final, Gilbert had a counterpoint to make. He revealed that Alcaraz will have to attend the champion’s dinner, which is a tradition at Wimbledon and he can’t miss it.

Like millions of fans worldwide, Gilbert was following Djokovic and Alcaraz’s match closely. It is a big day in Spain’s sporting history as Alcaraz and the men’s soccer teams play their respective finals matches. Alcaraz was first to play and it was widely speculated by many fans on social media that he would travel to Berlin later in the day to cheer for his country’s soccer team at the 2024 Euros final.

However, watching Alcaraz dominate Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, Gilbert felt that he looked like the favorite to win the match and that he would have to attend the champion’s dinner which he can’t miss due to the tournament’s age-old tradition. While the Spaniard was outplaying Djokovic in the match, Gilbert pointed out the biggest flaw in the Serb’s game today.

Despite injury concerns, Djokovic proved his critics wrong by reaching the summit clash of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. However, he is up against a familiar foe, Alcaraz, who defeated him last year on the same stage. Additionally, Alcaraz started the match brightly and took a 2-set lead against the Serb.
