Notably, Evert had been married three times so far and former British no.1 John Lloyd was her very first husband. However, their marriage lasted around 8 years. Although Lloyd was not a political figure, he had an interaction with former American President Donald Trump.
John Lloyd talked about his business partnership with Donald Trump
In a recent interview, the 67-year-old former British player talked about his little business partnerships with Donald Trump. After retiring from tennis, Lloyd worked as an international estate agent in Florida. Interestingly, he lived near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club and had a weird first interaction with the former President.
According to Lloyd, Trump called him a 3-time Grand Slam winner when they first met, which flattered the Brit, as he never won a Grand Slam singles title. Speaking about his business partnership with Trump, he said, “A few months ago, an ex-tennis pro who plays golf with Trump a couple of times a week, asked me: ‘What do you think about giving some tennis lessons at Mar-a-Lago?’ He has got four clay courts there now, but it’s $400,000 (£318,000) a year to be a member.”
“I replied I wouldn’t mind doing a bit. Sure enough, my friend calls and announces, ‘Someone wants to speak to you.’ The former president says, ‘John, great idea.’ You can be the celebrity coach. So, here’s the deal. Why don’t you charge 500 bucks an hour and I’ll take 250,'” Lloyd further added.
Chris Evert met Lloyd during Wimbledon Championships
During the 1978 Wimbledon Championships, Evert and Lloyd first met each other and later fell in love. According to Lloyd, he went on a date with Evert before the Wimbledon final against Martina Navratilova.
