Coco Gauff’s heroics at the WTA Finals have now become the talk of the town. She outclassed the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek to become the youngest player to win the season-ending WTA Finals since Maria Sharapova in 2004. Gauff’s Instagram post celebrating her WTA Finals victory was flooded with congratulatory messages, with Carlos Alcaraz’s comment standing out among the rest.
Her November 10th post featuring that incredible win over Qinwen Zheng was captioned, “In all seriousness, I’m so grateful for all the support the last few weeks. Getting to win the last tournament of the season and it also being my second biggest title of my career so far is insane. Wow WTA FINALS CHAMPION🤯 All glory to God truthfully 🙏🏾 I‘m eternally grateful for the life I get to live and to have moments like this makes all of the hours/sacrifice I put into this worth it. time to rest for a little bit but then it’s back to grind for next years szn😈⏳“
Holger Rune commented on that post saying, “100% Well done 🔥 congrats 🎉🏆.” Taylor Townsend wrote, “I’m so proud of you!!! Congratulations!! So well deserved 💜💜🔥.” Even Frances Tiafoe and Alycia Perks dropped a few emojis under that post, but what did Carlos Alcaraz say to Coco Gauff? Carlos Alcaraz is all set to start his campaign at the ATP Finals in just a few hours from now in Turin. He’ll face Casper Ruud in his first group stage match. Gauff’s kind words for Alcaraz raise the question: Have these two forged a strong friendship on the tennis tour? Well, previously during the China Open, we saw Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff in all smiles when they visited the Forbidden City, dressed in traditional clothing.
After donning the traditional attires, Gauff was heard saying, “I was laughing so hard when Carlos put his on because he had that huge smile and he was just standing there as people dressed him. Mine had red and white, so I liked my outfit better. I wasn’t jealous. I’ve only seen settings like this on TV and in movies.” In a video, Carlos Alcaraz was spotted heaping praise on Coco Gauff, saying, “You are looking good.” After hearing this, Gauff replied, “Thank you. I got a new outfit. We got one for you too.” Even after winning the China Open title, Gauff yet again brought up her sightseeing adventure with Alcaraz.
She said, “Carlos and I both went to the Forbidden City earlier this week. Someone in the press asked me if it was gonna bring luck. I was like I don’t know I don’t want to jinx it. Then Carlos won. At that time it was only Round of 16 for me. But I guess the Imperial Palace brought us luck.” Even when Carlos Alcaraz won the China Open title by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final, Gauff sent a sweet message congratulating the Spaniard on his win. Both these tennis stars have a lot of respect for each other and now it seems they’ve also started to enjoy each other’s company!
What lessons did Coco Gauff learn from Carlos Alcaraz, though?
Both Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz are two fun-loving characters. Speaking about their experiences in China, Carlos Alcaraz once said, “I’m going to remember this moment for sure. It couldn’t be with a better person than Coco. I had so much fun with her, so we are going to have really good pictures together with the clothes.” Clearly, Alcaraz loved Gauff’s company on his trip to the Forbidden City. Does Gauff have a similar liking for Alcaraz’s fun-loving nature?

During a previous interview, Coco Gauff spoke about what she has learned from watching Carlos Alcaraz. She loves the way how Alcaraz manages to remain calm and composed even during tense situations. She described how watching Alcaraz helped her smile while playing tennis, making it more enjoyable. Elaborating further on that, she added,
“Carlos in Cincinnati, he was losing a set every match pretty much and he wasn’t playing his best, that was clear. The way that he was still smiling, for me, against Hubi Hurkacz and he was down a set and a break or something like that, I don’t know, he was down crazy or down match points. He was still smiling.”
She further added, “I was, like, if he can smile, he’s No 1 in the world and he has all this pressure, he’s supposed to beat Hubi on paper, then I can do it in situations maybe where most of the time now I’m not the underdog. But against, for example, like Iga (Swiatek) or (Aryna) Sabalenka, those where I’m considered the underdog on paper, I can smile too.”

After seeing Alcaraz, Gauff has now started looking to “transfer that” joy into her own matches instead of just bottling up her expressions. Both of them have earned a fair bit of success at a very early age. Is there any secret to that? Carlos Alcaraz thinks it’s crucial to have fun at every match irrespective of the outcome! Pour your love on these two fun-loving friends of the tennis world in the comment section.
