Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina are known as tennis’ power couple. They began dating a long time ago, in 2018, and announced their engagement in April last year. Subsequently, they got married on July 16, 2021, in Switzerland.

The wedding dress that Svitolina wore was designed by the incredibly talented Virgil Abloh. The designer passed away in November last year, and in a recent video, Gael paid tribute to his friend.

Australian Open, via its official Instagram handle, shared a video of the power couple. The video shows Elina in a beautiful purple gown. Her dress was designed by their friend Virgil, the former artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection. Gael Monfils was dressed in a smart purple suit, thus matching the color of her gown. The pair were further seen twinning in white.

When asked about the dress, Gael said, “First of all it started with our friend who passed away, Virgil (Abloh) who designed the dress of Elina. That was a big honor for us, one of the biggest designer to draw a wedding dress.”

The wedding party was stunning too; complete with a dance floor, disco ball, and lots of family and friends on hand to celebrate with the very happy couple. Monfils also described Virgil’s work with the dress as “unbelievable.”
