Belinda Bencic’s outstanding year continues as she was named Swiss Sportswoman of the Year on Sunday. She expressed her pride in representing Switzerland and acknowledged Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka for their contributions.
Belinda Bencic grabbed the gold medal in the singles event and the silver medal in the doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Bencic was awarded the prestigious honor for bagging the gold and silver medals for her country.

Belinda Bencic is proud to hold the Swiss flag in Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka’s absence
On 12th December 2021, Belinda Bencic was honored with the Swiss Sportswoman of the Year for her incredible achievements in 2021. She received this award for her extraordinary success this year in the sport.
At the Tokyo Olympics 2021, she gracefully won the gold medal in the singles competition, while ending with a silver medal in the doubles event, teaming up with Viktorija Golubic. Following her gold medal win, she became the first Swiss woman to get a gold medal in singles.

In the press conference, she talked about her compatriots and tennis superstars, Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. “I don’t feel like I’m the only one that their eyes are on me. I’m very happy and like proud to be kind of holding the Swiss flag up on the tournaments that Roger and Stan [Wawrinka] cannot play,” she said.
Bencic, after winning the gold medal, credited Federer for constantly supporting her. Belinda has been a long admirer of the 20-time Grand Slam winner.

Bencic looks determined to return to the Australian Open 2022
Since the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic in October, Belinda Bencic has backed off from the WTA Tour. She did, however, compete at the Billie Jean Cup in November. Bencic was part of a Switzerland team that progressed to the final before falling short to Russia.
However, Belinda wants to make a promising comeback at the Australian Open 2022. After having a noteworthy 2021 season, the Swiss must be hoping to make an impact in the upcoming season.
