The 2023 Wimbledon Championships is entering the business end of this year’s excitement-filled event. While the first week was marred by numerous controversies, the action quickly shifted on the court as the world’s top players battled it out to remain in contention to win one of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments. Amongst them is World Number Two, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
Earlier today, the 25-year-old defeated America’s Madison Keys to enter the last four of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. With this, she equaled her best performance at Wimbledon, having reached the semifinals of the tournament back in 2021. After the match, Sabalenka did a Novak Djokovic.

The reigning Australian Open champion had a rather hilarious post-match moment, as she took a sigh of relief after overcoming a tough opponent in the form of Keys. During the post-match on-court interview, she took a cheeky dig at the Wimbledon crowd, saying, ?Thank you so much for the atmosphere. Even though you support her more, I still enjoy playing in front of you guys.”
By doing so, Sabalenka channeled her inner Novak Djokovic. The latter has also had similar instances with the Wimbledon crowd during his illustrious career. Last year, the 23-time Grand Slam champion blew kisses at the Wimbledon crowd as he was booed by them during his semifinal match against the local favorite Cameron Norrie. However, that didn’t deter the Serb, as he went on to win the match in four sets. Eventually, the Serb won the title by overcoming the challenge of Nick Kyrgios in an action-packed final.

Like Djokovic, Sabalenka too remains unaffected by the crowd’s behavior as she dominated Keys throughout the match. The World Number Two broke hardly any sweat as she defeated the American in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in just less than an hour and a half.
Whom will Sabalenka face next?
With a spot in the Wimbledon semifinals booked, the Belarusian tennis star will face Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the final four. The latter caused a massive upset as she knocked out defending champion Elena Rybakina in a grueling three-set quarterfinal match.
