A few days back, Roger Federer announced his retirement with a social media post, and in that message, he thanked his wife Mirka for being his constant support. Throughout his career, she was constantly by his side, and has been a part of his successes and faliures.

The 20-time grand slam champion has always adored his wife for being perfect. The two met back in 2000 and dated for nine years before tying the knot in 2009. In various conversations after his retirement, the swiss maestro has talked about being a perfect family man and the couple’s early days of falling in love.

Roger Federer recalls Mirka’s first reaction 

Before turning into the calm star, the former world number one was as fierce as other tennis players of that time with all the aggression and dedication to go for every grand slam title. Federer’s wife Mirka was also a tennis player when they first encountered glares. The tennis ace recalls a funny anecdote about his wife’s reaction the first time they met.

He said, “Mirka had a similar situation, where she only play Club Tennis and she’s still like well this guy what he’s apparently new Superstar tennis player here in Switzerland I don’t think so he’s behaving too bad for that but I have a lot of those moments where people yeah saw me play. I was a rough diamond.”

However, in the same conversation with another former tennis player Barbara Schett, who played alongside Federer’s wife, said she felt that he looked like Pete Sampras and was quite impressed with the junior Swiss tennis player at that time. 

They first crossed paths at the Summer Olympics in 2000, as Switzerland’s representatives, and are blessed with four children.

Federer ready for his last tournament 

The world number one has tried for a year to make a perfect comeback after all his injuries. The tennis legend is ready to play for his last tournament at the Laver Cup. And on the other hand, the 20-time grand slam champion has hinted that he might only play doubles for his last tournament rather than participating in singles.

Notably, he did mention Rafael Nadal, as a good doubles partner. Tennis fans are eagerly waiting for the two tennis giants to come together and play a charismatic game.
