The 2023 Wimbledon Championships ended with much fanfare after the world saw an epic men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. However, the tournament was nothing short of controversies and drama. From protestors storming the court to a schoolgirl’s death at Wimbledon, the fans saw it all. Lately, this kind of news has dominated the tennis world.
Last week, former top-10 player, Mark Philippoussis, received punishment after a breach of betting sponsorship rules. The Australian coach received a massive fine of $10,000 from the International Tennis Integrity Agency. Recently, another coach faced troubles in a similar situation.
French tennis coach suspended from the sport

Hours ago, the International Tennis Integrity Agency announced that French tennis coach Clement Reix has been suspended from the sport for 12 months following two breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program. This comes days after Australian coach, Mark Philippoussis faced sanctions from the same agency.
In a report by International Tennis Integrity Agency, the breaches were known to be related to the French coach’s former spouse. During an investigation, Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer Amani Khalifa determined Reix of accepting money to negatively influence his former spouse’s performance. Additionally, he was also charged with failing to report a corrupt offense in 2018.

As a result of this massive punishment, Reix will be suspended from the sport till 24 July 2024. Neither can he coach nor can he play at any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the governing bodies of tennis.

Further, this is not the only concerning news that has rocked the tennis world. Just after Wimbledon, another shocking update caused massive controversy.
Illegal bets come to light
Last month, it was reported that 864 illegal bets were placed in Massachusetts. The bets amounted to thousands of dollars. Sports betting company, DraftKings accepted these illegal bets during a period of 12 days. Further, the reason cited for this fiasco was, “miscommunication between the trading team and the trading compliance team,” which led to illegal bets being accepted.

While Wimbledon saw controversies dominating the tennis action, fans will hope for a smooth US Open. The final Grand Slam of the season takes place in Flushing Meadows from August 28.
