Is Carlos Alcaraz the next big thing in tennis, or just another overhyped talent?

Carlos Alcaraz is now the talk of the town.! The Spaniard’s incredible runs in the 2024 season have not only made him a popular figure in men’s tennis but even in the women’s tour. Alcaraz has already grabbed three titles this year and guess what? Two out of those three are major titles! His enormous success at such a young age has now impressed another youngster from a different continent.

Navarro is currently in Toronto, playing at the Canadian Open. She has already reached the SF over there and will face her compatriot Amanda Anisimova in the semis. But before that, she made her debut at Match Point Canada. During a conversation in the podcast, she was asked to name a current tennis player who she really admires.

After a little bit of thinking, she stated, “I admire umm, Carlos Alcaraz. I think he’s the most athletic and maybe he’s the most explosive player that has ever played.” Well, that’s a huge statement indeed! It, in fact, reminds us of the blushing face of Alcaraz. Hope, this message reaches him. However, do you know both Alcaraz and Navarro have some strange similarities?

Like, for example, Navarro can hit incredible drop shots and this, at times, reminds the fans of Carlitos. Apart from that, the American women’s tennis star is also capable of winning a major title on any given surface. Just like Alcaraz, she is an all-court player. How does she manage to do that so well?

Well, for those who are unaware, Navarro grew up on her father’s clay courts in Mount Pleasant, S.C. She won her collegiate national singles championships on the hard courts. Navarro had success on the grass courts as well in the initial phases of her career. She reached the SF of the 2019 Wimbledon Juniors.

Navarro reflects on her admiration for the women’s tennis star

During a recent interview, the 23-year-old American tennis star reflected on her love and admiration for her compatriot Danielle Collins. She revealed the valuable lessons that she has learned from Collins in the last few months. Both the players took a similar route to start their professional journey in the tennis world. They opted for taking a college tennis route before trying their luck on the main Tour. Although Collins and Navarro have contrasting on-court personalities, the youngster reveals she has learned a lot from her senior compatriot.

Reflecting on those most valuable lessons that Collins taught her, Navarro revealed, “We have very different on-court personalities, for sure, but I think she’s taught me a little bit about how to just be yourself, and not everyone’s going to like how you go about things, but don’t let that get to you.” Navarro further went on to add, “She’s (Collins), yeah, very outgoing and expressive on the court, and she’s unapologetically herself, which I think is really cool.”

She said Collins has always been very much supportive of her and perhaps these are some of the reasons that put her on the list of favorites of Navarro.
