Need ideas for some cute couple goals? Don’t fret, Gael Monfils has got you covered. The Frenchman is in action at the Australian Open and he is all for hyping his WTA star wife Elina Svitolina. Ahead of her third-round showdown against Jasmine Paolini, Monfils made a heartwarming gesture for her sweetheart at Melbourne Park.

After registering a huge upset by outclassing American Taylor Fritz in the third round, Monfils engaged in a fun conversation during an on-court interview. When he was informed that his wife would be playing on the Margeret Court Arena next, he told fans that he warmed up the court for her and hoped to see her dig deep at the Melbourne Slam. “You know, I think I warmed up the court for her. She plays also World No. 4, so, I guess it’s going to be tough for her and Elina, I hope she will search this one.”

With multiple updates emerging around the couple, some also showcased the couple greeting each other off-court and exchanging lighthearted words before the Ukrainian locked horns with Paolini. Sending an adorable message to her wife wasn’t nearly enough for the French sensation, so he proceeded to spectate the thriller, earning him huge applause from fans on social media for his constant support for the Ukrainian. Monfils was seated in Svitolina’s private box alongside her training team.

For those unaware, both players tied the knot in 2021 and welcomed their daughter, Skai, on October 15, 2022. Svitolina later scripted a strong comeback after returning to competitive tennis in 2023 from her pregnancy hiatus. She hasn’t stopped since.

The former World No. 3 reached the fourth round of the ‘Happy Slam’ after overpowering Paolini in a riveting three-set showcase in Melbourne, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.

As for Monfils, just when many thought Fritz would end his campaign at the hardcourt major, the Frenchman stunned the community by overturning a one-set deficit to outfox him 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(1), 6-4 at Melbourne Park.

“Been just fortunate, you know, but every day is different. We work hard, you know, I try to be very disciplined with the recovery. I have a strong belief of myself, strong belief that I can still do some damage and I have a big trust to my team. And obviously, with a little bit luck, here we are in second week of Australian Open.”

For those unaware, if Monfils surpasses his fourth round test, he will reach the quarterfinals of the ‘Happy Slam’ for the third time in his career. However, he will need to quash American Ben Shelton‘s challenge to record that update on Monday, January 20.
