The schedule of the 56th edition of the ‘Happy Slam’ has been the center of attention for the last couple of weeks. This year Australian Open became the second Grand Slam event after the French Open to be held across 15 days. Reason? Well, as per the tournament organizers, the decision is taken mainly to avoid late night/early morning finishes.

They wanted to ensure fans get a chance to enjoy the exciting matches of their favorite players at a friendlier time. In doing so, this would also ensure players get appropriate recovery time before their next match. However, recently the ticket holders took a vicious swipe at the Australian Open for its Day 7 schedule. They find it boring and inappropriate.

Earlier the organizers had announced that the 2024 Australian Open’s day’s sessions of Margaret Court & Rod Laver Arena will have a minimum of 2 scheduled matches instead of 3. And, the night sessions will stay at a minimum of 2 matches. But after looking at the matches lined up for Saturday, ticket holders have started to express their disappointment yet again on the Australian Open.

A fan said, “As someone paying hundreds of $ for a seat on RLA tomorrow night I cannot tell you how disappointed I am that Zverev is playing. What on earth??? Why are you highlighting this person??

Another one called Saturday’s schedule “a complete snoozefest.”

Some of them found Alexander Zverev’s match at Rod Laver Arena over Danil Medvedev‘s to be utterly shocking.

Another user said, “Might be the worst men’s match I could’ve hoped for as an MCA day session ticket holder for tomorrow. Will certainly be staying at John Cain arena all day.

A few of them looked disappointed to see Victoria Azalenka‘s match against Jelena Ostapenko at Margaret Court Arena instead of Rod Laver Arena.

Others were surprised to see Carlos Alcaraz‘s match during the day session.

Several reactions are coming in regarding the schedule of this year’s Australian Open. But did any of the changes become fruitful in the first Grand Slam of the 2024 season?

The British former tennis player puts up a question mark on the schedules of AO 2024

The ‘Happy Slam’ has yet again been roasted for its inability to curb late-night finishes. The world number 3, Daniil Medvedev, wrapped up play at 3:40 am on Friday. On Thursday, the women’s event witnessed the longest tie-break in Grand Slam history. Both the women’s matches took a combined 6 hours to finish, while the men took 9 hours in total to finish two matches.

The 49-year-old British former tennis player, Tim Henman, recently questioned the rule around the late-night finishes in the Grand Slam matches. He said, “The problem in the slams is you’re playing best in five sets. On tour, you’re playing best of three sets, but it’s been a crazy day. I don’t know whether you need to start the night session a little bit earlier. Do you make the balls, the courts a bit quicker? Who knows? But this is not what they wanted in this tournament.”
