Andre Agassi’s Ex-Coach Stands by 34-Year-Old Tennis Veteran as He Rebukes Appalling Opponent’s Scathing Words in a Bizarre Tennis Incident for the Ages

Tennis boasts of players like Roger Federer, Andrey Rublev, and Iga Swiatek who have upheld the torch of true sportsmanlike conduct both on and off the court. However, sometimes the sport also comes across with the harsh reality of “not everything is perfect.” Recently, Chinese player Shuai Zhang faced a heartbreaking incident on the court while she competed against Hungarian player Kiara Toth in her home tournament. The former coach of Andre Agassi has now questioned her stance.

Moreover, the unempathetic stance of the Hungarian player has triggered a remorseful chain of events. The former coach of tennis legend Andre Agassi is one of the tennis personalities who has come out and condemned her unapologetic statement.

The former coach of eight-time Grand Slam champion Brad Gilbert has broken his silence on the contentious Hungarian Open incident.

The Chinese player Shuai Zhang was tied with her opponent at 5-5, 30-30 in the first set. She asked to check the ball mark which was ruled out as out by the chair umpire. As she went to the net to check the ball mark, her opponent, Hungarian player Kiara Toth, went and cleared the ball mark with her shoes. Feeling a sense of injustice, Zhang retired from the match and Toth celebrated in full glory after the results.

Later on, her unapologetic statement became yet another contentious issue. Consequently, Andre Agassi’s former coach bashed her stance. He stated, “wow that is unbelievable statement when the ball was clearly in and umpire lost the plot.” 

The incident has derived an outcry from the tennis realm bu condemning the Hungarian player for her unsportsmanlike conduct. However, that was not enough, and the Hungarian player later condemned Zhang for overreacting and creating “trouble for herself.”

But seems like Toth has created trouble for herself. Many WTA stars have sided with Zhang and have empathized with her take.

WTA comes in unison to support Shuai Zhang

Shuai Zhang maintained her integrity till the end. Even after retiring, she shook hands with the umpire and her opponent and went away peacefully.

Tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic bashed Kiara Toth for her “disgusting behavior.” Apart from her, the former coach of Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs, took a dig at the chair umpire who could not handle the situation. Australian tennis player Ellen Perez also condemned Toth’s “disrespect” towards the game and her opponent.
