Whenever anyone searches ‘which tennis player has spent the longest time ranked number 1?’ whose name is shown in the result? The most common answer that flashes over anyone’s screen is Novak Djokovic, who recently won his 22nd Grand Slam title and regained the world number one spot. However, this is not the actual answer.
Recently, the American tennis legend Billie Jean King gave an accurate answer, claiming that it’s not the Serbian tennis player who has been the longest-serving world number one in history, but it’s another 22-time Grand Slam champion.

Amid the “which player has been the longest-serving world number one?” discussion, the 79-year-old American tennis legend took to her Instagram account to credit the actual player who was world number one for straight 377 weeks, Steffi Graf.
The 10-time Australian Open champion, on the other hand, has spent less time in the first spot, which is 374 weeks. If the ‘Djoker’ maintains his position for another 3 weeks, he will equal Graf’s record and eventually surpass her.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that the former German tennis star is the current record holder. And King took a stand for Graf and requested the tennis fans to give her the credit that the 53-year-old tennis legend deserves.

She captioned the post with simple words and made people aware of the answer. She wrote, “Correct The Internet is a global initiative created to correct bias and help make sportswomen more visible. When searching for “which tennis player has spent the longest time ranked number 1,” the results often come up with Novak Djokovic, but the facts say it’s actually Stefanie Graf. Novak will soon claim the spot, but it’s important to recognize Stefanie to give her the honor she deserves.”
