The Wimbledon Championships is one of the most prestigious sporting events in history. Being the oldest grand slam, Wimbledon is the one everyone looks forward to. Along with the intense competition, the grass slam is also known for its long-standing traditions. One of the traditions of the tournament is the reserved seating box for the Royal family of England.

While many members come to witness the fierce tennis competition, few generate more buzz like Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Cambridge has worn iconic outfit every time she appeared in the grand slam, and they become a significant part of the coverage of the tournament.

In June 2011, the newlywed Duchess made her first Wimbledon visit as a member of the Royal Family. She wore a tiered — and extremely tennis-inspired — white gown by Temperley London. Dubbed the Moriah dress, it had three levels of pleated ruffles and shoulder straps with a distinctive circular cutout motif on the straps.

She carried a tan snakeskin-print clutch for the event — and a brown coat to prepare for the infamous weather changes in England. She wore the outfit on day seven of the tournament when she watched Andy Murray play Richard Gasquet in a fourth-round match.

2012: Alexander McQueen Sailor Style

The Princess of Wales attended Wimbledon twice in 2012. She made her first appearance in the quarter-finals of the gentlemen’s singles. She donned the same knit sailor-style Alexander McQueen outfit she wore on the couple’s 2011 tour of Canada to the match.

The cream jumper dress included blue stripes at the waist and cuffs, as well as a playful tie-neck. She accessorized with Jaeger’s blue quilted purse and diamond-and-sapphire earrings.

Joseph Vanessa Dress and Joseph Nessie Jacket

Her younger sister, Pippa Middleton, accompanied her to her second Wimbledon match of 2012. The two Middleton sisters witnessed Andy Murray play Roger Federer in the men’s singles final, which the Mighty Federer won.

The Princess wore a Joseph Vanessa gown for the occasion. She accessorized the cream dress with the ‘Nessie Tweed Jacket’ also by Joseph. Additionally, she had the Diane Von Furstenberg Lytton clutch in leopard print, a set of Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop earrings, a Kristin Magnusson Acorn necklace, and a pair of Givenchy Obsidia sunglasses in the Royal Box.

2014: Zimmerman Roamer Day Dress

The Duchess of Cambridge returned to Wimbledon in 2014 after missing the event in 2013 due to her pregnancy. She watched Andy Murray take on Grigor Dimitrov in the men’s quarter-finals.

The Duchess wore a white Zimmermann dress for the match, the Roamer Day Dress in white. Kate accessorized her white gown with L.K. Bennett Nude Sledge Pumps, Annoushka Pearl Drop earrings, a red pashmina/scarf, and Ray-Ban Wayfarers folding sunglasses.

Jonathan Saunders Evelyn Dress

The Duchess also attended the gentlemen’s singles final between Federer and Novak Djokovic. She wore Jonathan Saunders’ blue and green ‘Evelyn’ dress to the match. She kept her accessories modest, opting for a tan L.K. Bennett purse, a silver Cartier watch, and green Kiki McDonough gemstone earrings.

2015: L.K. Bennett Cayla Dress

The Princess of Wales attended Wimbledon once in 2015 to see Andy Murray play in the quarter-finals. Although it was her sixth visit to the Royal Box since 2011, it was her first time wearing a never-before-seen outfit.

Kate Middleton wore a bright red L.K. Bennett gown. She accessorized with a leopard print Diane Von Furstenberg Lytton clutch and Mirabelle gold hoop earrings.

2016: Roksanda Ryedale Dress

The Princess made her first appearance in the women’s semi-finals in 2016. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a bright yellow dress to her first Wimbledon play of the year. It was also the first time she had a pre-match meet and greet with tournament officials, service employees, ball boys/girls, and other noteworthy persons. For this event, she chose the yellow/white Roksanda Ryedale outfit.

McQueen Talisman Obsession Dress

She wore the Alexander McQueen Obsession Talisman dress to the 2016 men’s final, where Andy Murray won against Milos Raonic. The “Obsessions Talisman” short-sleeved dress by the brand included lipsticks, skulls, and butterflies – a far cry from the royal’s customary bland designs and solids.

2017: Dolce & Gabbana Dress

Middleton attended the first day of Wimbledon for the first time in 2017. It was her first formal visit as Royal Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a position previously held by the Queen. She also held a meet-and-greet prior to the match. Middleton wore a white square-necked Dolce & Gabbana dress with vivid black polka dots to the first round of the men’s singles tournament.

Catherine Walker Wild Flower Dress

The Prince and Princess of Wales saw Federer win his eighth Wimbledon title the same year. The Princess wore a white fit and flare dress by Catherine Walker with a wildflower print along the hem for this occasion. Middleton added a purple-and-green ribbon that can only be worn by AELTC members.

2018: Jenny Packham Dress

Middleton attended Wimbledon for the first time with sister-in-law Meghan in 2018. Meghan watched her pal Serena Williams play in the ladies finals. Jenny Packham designed Middleton’s gown. It had cap sleeves, ruffled details at the shoulder and waist, and a black polka dot print that looked like tennis balls.

Dolce & Gabanna Dress Resort ‘17 Dress

Middleton adorned a yellow Dolce & Gabbana gown for her second Royal Box appearance of the year. With her husband, William, she watched Novak Djokovic play Kevin Anderson in the men’s finals. She bought the vibrant knee-length dress from D&G’s Resort ’17 line.

2019: Susannah Flippy Wiggle Dress

In 2019, the Princess attended Wimbledon three times. In her maiden attendance, she toured the practice courts before watching a couple of games in her capacity as Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

She wore a white Suzannah dress known as the Flippy Wiggle dress, which she accessorized with an Alexander McQueen black bow belt.

Bespoke Version of D&G’s Georgette Crepe Midi Dress

Middleton was accompanied by her sister Pippa and sister-in-law Meghan to her second match of the year. In the ladies’ final, the three women watched Simona Halep upset Serena Williams. Dolce & Gabanna’s green mid-length dress was a short-sleeved, tie-neck dress with gold buttons marching down the front. Her diamond Asprey hoops and AELTC ribbon completed the look.

2020: HVN Maria Dress

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Wimbledon did not take place in 2020. The Duchess of Cambridge joined a Zoom chat with young tennis players from Bond Primary School in London to mark what would ordinarily be “finals weekend.”

Middleton wore a green shirt dress by HVN to the Zoom meeting. It was a festive pick because of its tennis-themed print.

2021: Alessandra Rich

Middleton’s first appearance without a gown in over a decade would be in 2021. The 41-year-old wore an Alessandra Rich blue polka dot skirt with a plain white tee for her first visit of the year. She completed the look with a navy blue Smythe Duchess Blazer.

Emilia Wickstead Denver Dress

She chose a bright green dress by Emilia Wickstead, one of her favorite designers, for the 2021 ladies’ finals. The full-skirted, cap-sleeved dress was a slightly changed version of the brand’s “Denver” model.

The Duchess of Cambridge donned a polka-dotted Alessandra Rich outfit she wore at the Platinum Jubilee to the men’s quarter-final match in 2022. The bright blue dress with white polka dots had a complementing belt and pleated front, as well as puffed sleeves reminiscent of Princess Diana. Middleton attached her Wimbledon ribbon to her dress as well.

Roksanda Brigitte Dress

She attended the women’s finals with a Roksanda garment called the Brigitte. Middleton first wore the dress on the Platinum Jubilee Tour earlier in 2022 in Jamaica. She kept the bright vibes going with an L.K. Bennett floppy straw hat.

The bright midi dress had pleated detailing at the bust and a huge flounce on the left shoulder; therefore, she wore her Wimbledon ribbon on the opposite shoulder.
