The US Open is the fourth and final grand slam of the year. Being a grand slam, the US Open has a prize pool that overshadows the rest of the tournaments on tours. Players battle it out in the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, not only for the championship glory but also for the massive prize money offered by the tournament.

This year is no different. Like every year, the US Open will have an immense prize pool which is an offer players cannot refuse. Along with the prize money offered, players will also fight to lift the prestigious trophy that has a rich history behind it.

As usual, everything is bigger in the US. The same pattern follows for the prize money. The slam held in New York has the largest prize pool of all tournaments, even more than the other three slams. This year, the overall amount has set a record of a massive $65 million, according to AP News. Women’s and men’s singles players earn the same amounts, given how far they’ve reached in the tournament.

The winner of the tournament will earn $3 million, and the runner-up will secure $1.5 million. Prize goes down as the player exit in earlier rounds. The semifinalists will earn $775,000, with quarterfinalists going home with $445,000. It goes all the way down to the first round, with the lowest prize money offered at $81,500.

The doubles division will follow a similar pattern, but the prize money won’t be the same as the singles. The winning duo will go home with $700,000, and the runner-up will win $350,000. Similar to singles, the prize money reduces with earlier exits and goes down to $22,000 for the pair that is eliminated in the first round.

The trophies of the US Open are a part of the legacy of the tournament. They are made by the acclaimed jeweller brand Tiffany & Co., who make the trophies for the tournament in sterling silver. The trophies mention the name of the US Tennis Association in bold letters. Below their names, the cups have the name ‘United States Open Tennis Championships’ engrained onto them as well, the previous name of the US Open.

The winner’s trophy is about 18 inches tall, 6 inches wide and weighs around 8.5 pounds. Winners get to take home a replica, which is similar to the original trophy in dimensions. In the Open Era, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors have won the US Open five times in the ATP Tour.
