US Open Finalist Daniil Medvedev Brings Roger Federer Into the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo Soccer Debate as He Picks His GOAT

All sports have a debate about the best player in the sport. Regardless of whether it is a team or an individual sport, some players have statistics that overshadow everyone else. In soccer, this debate comprises Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Many sports personalities have also made their pick of the better player between the two. Now, Daniil Medvedev has also spoken out on who he favors. 

Medvedev chose between the two soccer great by making a comparison to Roger Federer. Like him, two soccer personalities used the example of Federer and Novak Djokovic to discuss who is greater between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Asking about which player is better, Ronaldo or Messi, is bound to break out a fight with soccer fans. The two players have been the best forwards to step on the field and have heavily divided the community over their favorite choice. Like fans, sports personalities also talk about their favorite player often. Recently, Medvedev also declared his choice of the two.

He was distraught over picking one over the other, but he found a way to make his preference known by making a comparison to the Swiss Maestro. “Daniil Medvedev: Messi or Ronaldo? I respect both. It’s just that Leo does things with the ball that Cristiano can’t do. Messi is a bit like Federer. You can’t understand how they do it. 💖“” 

For Medvedev, Messi edges out Ronaldo by a bit due to his control over the ball. This is not the only time a sports personality has been asked about the two and made a comparison with tennis greats.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic related to soccer greats

Former Tottenham Hotspurs FC star Peter Crouch and TV presenter Jermaine Jenas drew parallels between Federer and Djokovic and Messi and Ronaldo. For them, the Swiss Maestro is akin to Messi, given his artistry. The 24 time grand slam champion is similar to Ronaldo as they are all about the numbers, robotic and relentless in their pursuit of greatness. Crouch was clear in his comments when he said, “Federer is Messi, right? Djokovic is Ronaldo”.

While the two sports are completely different, many people have drawn parallels between them as they often share athletic abilities. In a similar manner, people have drawn similarities between the greats of different sports.
