Rafael Nadal has been absent from tennis for the entire season. But he has shown his presence in the sporting world. The King of Clay is a big soccer fan and follows the sport as often as he can. Most recently, he attended a match of the Copa Del Ray and kicked off the first round with an honor shot. 

The last time Rafa was seen at a soccer match was earlier in March, during one of the most thrilling match-ups of the La Liga. The El Clasico was attended by the Spaniard as he aimed at recovery. Now, he was able to kick off a match at a prestigious tournament. 

Rafael Nadal gets the honor to start Copa Del Ray

The Copa Del Ray tournament pits teams from different Spanish leagues against each other. It is a prestigious tournament and gives the winning team much glory. The tournament began on November 1 and saw the icon of tennis kicking things off. Rafa, donned in all black, walked up to the center of the field to start things up. The ball was set in the middle, and as the referee whistled, Nadal kicked it.

He then shook the hands of the officials of the match and walked back to his seat. A video of the moment was shared by the official X account of UD Las Palmas. Along with the video was the caption, “😃 Rafa Nadal took the honor kick before the start of the first round of #CopaDelRey 23-24. 🏆A privilege for our entity to have shared that moment with a world sports legend.”

Rafa is a big soccer fan, and he is often seen in matches. Before the current event, he was seen attending one of the most expected matches of the La Liga.

Rafa attends the El Classico

No soccer fan will want to miss the showdown between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Even Rafael Nadal is susceptible to the match’s allure. The Spaniard, a die-hard Real Madrid supporter, also attended the game and was disappointed to see his club lose to their archrivals. After the match, he also gave an interview and updated the world on the status of his injuries, which are still afflicting him.

The Spaniard is a die-hard soccer fan. In another interview during his current hiatus, he said he would love to gain the presidential role at Real Madrid. Since he is from a different sport, the chances are less likely, but the die-hard Madridista will try his best.
