Carlos Alcaraz ended a two-year drought in spectacular fashion at the Paris Masters, clinching a second-round win over Nicolas Jarry. However, it wasn’t just the victory that stole the spotlight—it was the unexpected post-match celebration that left fans buzzing. Channeling his inner football fan, Alcaraz paid tribute to Brazilian soccer star Neymar Jr. by imitating his iconic celebration, adding a playful twist to his comeback.

The Spaniard stuck out his tongue and placed his hands on either side of his head, perfectly recreating the Brazilian star’s iconic move. With this lighthearted gesture, Alcaraz showed not only his joy but also hinted that his return to form is just getting started.

Along with that, he said, “I saw Neymar in Riyadh and this celebration is his, so I did it for him.” Alcaraz defeated Jarry handily to begin his Paris campaign, building on the momentum from his Shanghai Masters quarterfinal loss. Moreover, the Spaniard had to fight hard to win the first set even though he had an early lead.

He won the second set in just seven games. You might not be aware, Alcaraz’s celebration had a deeper meaning. Neymar frequently used it to mock his critics while at the French club Paris Saint-Germain. Alcaraz paid tribute to the Brazilian celebrity by making the amusing gesture as he also gave away a sense of defiance and assurance in his own return.

This is not the first time the Spaniard has used a soccer legend as inspiration for his victory statements. At the 2024 Shanghai Masters, Alcaraz further demonstrated his love for the sport and its heroes by writing “SIUUU” on the courtside camera after defeating Wu Yibing in the third round. This was a reference to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s iconic celebration.

Coming back to his latest win in Paris, Alcaraz reflected on its deeper significance, admitting that being winless until then made the moment even more special. He described it as a gift, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to finally see a win within his grasp. He shared, “It’s been two years since I have won a match here in Paris-Bercy, so every time that I keep going is a gift for me.”

His absence is felt as fans were looking forward to his performances. Alcaraz must’ve had Sinner on the top of his mind walking into the tournament since he knows very well what Sinner is capable of. He’s expressed his admiration for the Italian on a number of occasions.

During an interview, Carlos said, It doesn’t matter that I’ve beaten Jannik three times. Probably, I haven’t played good tennis in some tournaments. My winning percentage this year is really high, but Jannik is at another level this year, he’s over 91% in victories. Only a few players have achieved this over the years. But yes, I think all players are looking to be more consistent during the season.”
