On 1 October, John McEnroe was seen playing guitar with The Pretenders. The Captain America of Tennis is a music enthusiast and has made several appearances both as a singer and a guitarist with various bands. He is a close friend of Chrissie Hynde, who is a founding member of The Pretenders. She once wrote a song inspired by her beloved friend, who is one of the most controversial figures in the world of tennis.

A controversial figure, yet his remarkable achievements and skills on the court make him one of the Greatest Of All Time in tennis. The lyrics of “Don’t Get Me Wrong” truly define him the best- “Don’t get me wrong, if I come and go like fashion, I might be great tomorrow, But hopeless yesterday.” He retired from tennis with 77 singles titles, including 7 Grand Slams (3 Wimbledon+4 US Open). He is the only player in the history of ATP Tour to hold both world number one ranking in singles as well as doubles. McEnroe is a force to reckon with.

A musician in search of melody
The ‘Superbrat’ has always loved music since his early days. But it was only after his retirement that he turned into a working musician. His friends Eddie Van Halen and Eric Clapton had helped him to learn guitar. McEnroe formed a band and named it The Johny Smyth Band. He was the lead singer and guitarist in the band. He started writing songs and played small gigs in cities. Some praised him for his natural instinct for music, while others criticized him. Eventually, McEnroe quit the band after touring with it for two years.?
