Novak Djokovic proudly announced that he had been “waiting for this for almost 20 years.” Besides a long trail of grand slam titles in his portfolio, the Serb still misses an Olympic medal. While his recent semi-final victory at Roland Garros brought him closer to the dream, concerns about his knee brought an evident nervousness to his wife Jelena’s face. Although everyone thought that she might feel offended by it, she surprised everyone by dropping a lighthearted response.

Novak Djokovic has finally made it to the Olympic final by overcoming his semifinal curse. The former World No. 1 defeated Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2, to confirm his place in the finals against Carlos Alcaraz. This victory came out to be of high significance for the Serb, who had been defeated in his previous three Olympic semifinal appearances by Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Alexander Zverev.

During Djokovic’s match against Musetti, his wife, Jelena Djokovic, appeared to be concerned. She attended the match, and her anxious expressions were captured in photos as well as the live broadcast. A fan page on Instagram shared these pictures with a sarcastic caption, saying, “Not nervous at all, @jelenadjokovicndf.” Jelena responded lightheartedly by resharing the story and commenting, “I need to wear bigger sunglasses next time.”

This nervousness came in response to Djokovic’s knee injury concerns. The Serb was seen struggling with pain in his surgically repaired right knee but still managed to secure a win over Alexander Zverev. Reflecting on his journey, the Serb said, “I just tried to be in the present moment. I played against a player who is in great form and really came out firing from both ends.”

Despite the tough challenges and immense pain, Djokovic remains optimistic. “I managed to overcome this big hurdle. I must be honest and say that I was thinking about all the semi-finals that I lost,” he shared. The 37-year-old will face Carlos Alcaraz in the finals, which will be nothing less than a rematch of their Wimbledon final last month. The two players are currently tied 3-3 in their head-to-head matchups.

Out of several comments that didn’t just appreciate his semi-final victory but also motivated him for the upcoming challenge, a response from Jelena was also spotted. She dropped a heartfelt message in their native language, quoting a song to boost her husband’s morale. “Rejoice Serbian People for the Sake of Freedom(translated from Serbian),” Jelena wrote.

Djokovic’s post and Jelena’s supportive comment showcase the strong bond between them as he prepares for the final against Carlos Alcaraz. As the Serb has her wife as the perfect support system, he will likely win his first-ever gold medal.
