I know she is here with me in my thoughts,” said Djokovic.

The Serb’s relationship with Gencic began when the former was six. Gencic was conducting a summer tennis program when she noticed a young Djokovic enthusiastically watching her and others play. She then invited the Serb the next day and later mentioned Djokovic as “a golden child” to his parents.
