From clinching Grand Slams to scripting jaw-dropping records, Novak Djokovic has done it all. To add a cherry on top, the alleged GOAT also added the only missing piece of silverware from his resume at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Serbian superstar finally did justice to his long-lost dream by decorating his nation with the elusive gold. The lingering question is whether Nole will further his legacy in the sport. Well, don’t fret. A former ATP professional, who himself is a winner of two Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold medalist at Sydney 2000, has reserved a few words on the matter.

In an exclusive interview with Tennis Majors, former Russian tennis sensation Yevgeny Kafelnikov insisted that the 24-time Major champion can enjoy his journey on the circuit with no hold-ups. He also opined that the former World No. 1 has undoubtedly overtaken his arch-rivals, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, with his golden glory. “If he wants to keep playing for the pure pleasure of playing, no one will criticize him for that. (He) doesn’t need to prove to anyone that he’s better than Federer and Nadal, that’s for sure.”

However, Kafelnikov was puzzled to acknowledge Djokovic’s next goal, considering the latter claimed the one accomplishment he was deprived of – a career Golden Slam. This, in turn, bewildered the Russian, prompting him to inquire whether Nole could muster the motivation to carry on, subtly implying that this could potentially conclude the Serb’s career.Again, he has accomplished everything, I don’t know how he can find the motivation to go further than he already has. That’s how I see it.”

For context. World No. 2 Djokovic captivated the French crowd at Roland Garros earlier this week. He registered a hard-fought victory over Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the quadrennial event’s summit clash. Chris Evert declared Djokovic the undisputed Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in tennis following his Olympic gold medal win. However, when Kafelnikov was asked to answer, “Is he(Novak) the greatest athlete of all time? he had a rather distinct cross-sport analysis to put forth.

Kafelnikov asserted that Djokovic’s status as the greatest tennis player of all time is indisputable. However, he expressed reservations about placing Djokovic on the same pedestal as NBA legend Michael Jordan. The Russian tennis legend, who idolized Jordan, emphasized the basketball icon’s unparalleled status in his heart. Nonetheless, Kafelnikov acknowledged the Serbian’s exceptional accomplishments, firmly stating that he could be in a historical top 3.

Whether GOAT or not, the Serb never fails to thank his God and country people. After clinching his first career Gold, the Serb penned a heartfelt note, crediting his triumph to Serbia while embracing the plethora of emotions it came bearing! The details will leave you emotional!
