Like almost every year, high expectations rest on Novak Djokovic to produce noteworthy results. Like every other time, the Serb is up to the challenge to bring laurels to his nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After being subjected to a decent run this season, which saw him suffer from fitness troubles, Nole has entered the multi-sport event to script better records. However, the Serb is desperate as it will be his last chance to win an Olympic gold, as per the son of Jimmy Connors at least.

Brett Connors recently discussed the Serb’s shortcomings appearing on the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast. Though Djokovic’s dream run at the Olympics will be full of formidable challenges, Brett believes the former has set his eyes on the prize. For the unversed, the World No. 2 pocketed a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Brett addressed that the Serbian star has “one spare spot in his trophy cap,” an Olympic gold, which will fit perfectly amongst his massive collection of accolades. The former World No. 1’s son deliberated that Nole’s zealous nature would likely compel him to settle for nothing less than a gold medal as the Serb enters the Games acknowledging his most crucial participation of the year. “He’s gonna be focused on this more than anything else in the year. It seems like he has one spare spot in his trophy cap and it’s for a gold medal. Silver, he’ll be happy, but he wants the gold.”

In 2023, the Serbian voiced his ambition to pocket a gold medal. While talking in an interview, he enthusiastically expressed his wish to claim every thing in sight. “The Olympics are a huge desire of mine – it’s a unique opportunity, I have a bronze from Beijing 2008. All those things you mentioned—I want it all, why not, and we’ll see where it ends.”

However, to much amazement, clinching gold isn’t the only item on the Serb’s bucket list. Ahead of his first-round clash with Matthew Ebden in Paris, Nole wished to face his arch-nemesis for a probable last dance together.

In a recent interview with ‘Access Hollywood’, the Serbian superstar mentioned that sparks would fly when the pair squares off on the clay. He also added that this could account for their final on-court confrontation, which makes the thought of their clash sweeter. “If we get to meet, expect some fireworks on the court. Like the good old times. I hope we get to meet because there will probably be one last dance for both of us.”

While the duo needs to overcome challenges from their respective first-round opponents to set up a potential meet, Nadal’s physical struggles might dim those chances. Though Nole is in the same boat as the Spaniard, their clash will assuredly present a thrilling showdown for tennis fans.
