Andy Murray‘s recent comment ignited a heated debate and incited the anger of a rival tennis star, amid everything going around his retirement and the Paris Olympics participation. The tension escalated on the social media platform X, where British tennis player Liam Broady openly expressed his discontent with Murray.

Even though the 3-time Grand Slam winner is set to retire, his social media conversation with Broady has drawn interest from tennis fans all around the world and added another level of drama to their on-court competition. It all started when Broady shared his complaint about the breakfast arrangements ahead of his Atlanta Open qualifier against Shang Juncheng.

The 30-year-old wrote on X, “First match at 10 a.m. today so have to warm up at 8:30. Breakfast doesn’t open till 9am? Walked into player area and we’ve got… bagels. Really good for a high standard of tennis and tennis tournament in Atlanta.”

Looking into that, Andy Murray replied, “Hope you are ok mate. That sounds terrible. Surprised you hadn’t checked the breakfast situation ahead of time like most professionals would have done.” Murray’s comment, apparently, infuriated Broady.

The argument reached its peak when Broady accused Murray of relying on an extensive support team. “You have five people just to wipe your bum for you man you’ve never checked a situation ahead of time in your life we are not the same,” Broady shot back.

Andy Murray’s last tennis hurray is near

The timing of Andy Murray’s retirement has been the subject of months of conjecture, but in February he declared that he was “likely not going to play past this summer.” Following hip replacement surgery in 2019 and a string of other ailments in the past few years, Murray was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon singles this month because of a treatment to remove a cyst from his spine.

Fans can look forward to seeing Murray return to the court, as he has confirmed his participation in the singles category at the Paris Olympics. The 37-year-old had made it clear that he would like to compete in another Olympics, only if he felt he had a real chance of winning a medal and could earn a seat on Team GB via merit. And it seems the veteran is backing himself.
