So much so that the former World Number 1 chose Rublev to be the godfather of his newborn daughter earlier this year. In the ongoing ATP World Tour Finals, the two are drawn in the Red Group and will face each other today. Ahead of their big match, Rublev brought out his unique sense of humor as he opened up about his rivalry with Medvedev.

The World Number 5 was involved in an interview before his first match at the ATP World Tour Finals in Turin. During the same, Rublev made some interesting correlations as he opened up about his opponent today.

Rublev said, “He’s like umm when someone kills you slowly, you know? And you feel it that you are dying. If Alcaraz kills you fast and sometimes you don’t notice. Medvedev is killing you slowly. He’s over there, taking his time, enjoying the moment. You feel that you are dying little by little, you know?”

Medvedev is often known to take his time on serves and while taking returns. This can sometimes break the momentum of players, thereby giving a slight advantage to Medvedev. However, Rublev, being the godfather of Medvedev’s daughter and his good friend, knows his compatriot’s tactics well and will do everything to counter it as they face today.

Despite their on-court rivalry, it was Medvedev who trusted Rublev with the responsibility of being the godfather of his daughter. However, he made a surprising statement after being entrusted with this responsibility.

What did Rublev say after becoming a godfather?

Earlier this year, in an interview, Rublev expressed shock after Medvedev gave him the responsibility of becoming his daughter’s godfather. Despite not knowing the full extent of this responsibility, Rublev agreed to the role for his good friend. However, later, he made a shocking statement.

Talking about it, Rublev said, “They lied to me! They didn’t tell me right away that it was such a responsibility. At first, I agreed, and then I understood what it was. It was before Monte Carlo. We had time for the ceremony and it was very nice. It’s an honor to be the best man.”
