‘You Don’t Know How I Feel’ – Boris Becker’s Undeniable Upside Cited by Holger Rune as He Compares Tennis Legend to Former Coaches

After experiencing some lackluster campaigns at the start of the season, Holger Rune decided to split with the legendary French coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. Now, the Danish tennis player is under the tutelage of none other than the former tennis ace, Boris Becker, who has previously coached the likes of Novak Djokovic. Speaking about his coaching relationship with him, Rune recently issued a major statement about the German tennis legend.

After teaming up with the 20-year-old player, the Hall of Famer has accompanied him in three tournaments so far, including the recently concluded Nitto ATP Finals. While emphasizing his past coaching partnerships, the former world No. 4 recently opened up about how Becker is different from other coaches.

In the latest episode of the Advantage Connors Podcast show, the young ATP sensation was asked how it must be ‘really cool’ to team up with a legendary tennis figure who has been there in many big tournaments. Rune was asked, “You have different coaches in the past but Boris tells you something, it must be cool like look he’s done it, he’s been there; he’s been there in big tournaments, so when he says something, you can trust him.”

The Dane agreed as he said, “Yeah, exactly. And especially the feeling that when you get those emotions on the court, he knows what you’re feeling, what you’re going through, and he guides you in the right way easier that any other coaches.”

While asserting that Becker guides him in the right way, Rune opened up about how the German tennis legend also ‘knows what he’s going through’ on the court. The Dane added, “You know, some coaches, they can say, ‘I know how you feel’. No, you don’t know how I feel because you have never been there. So, having had the same emotions, and for sure Boris has had that.”

During the conversation, the 20-year-old player further emphasized Becker’s efforts to equip him with some on-court ‘weapons’.

During his illustrious journey on the ATP Tour, the Hall of Famer has bagged 49 singles titles while also reaching the number 1 ranking. Notably, Rune was singing the praise of Becker’s vast experience and remarkable legacy while revealing how he also possessed some on-court ‘weapons’.

“He’s been there for so many years on the tour. You know, he had his weapons.” Rune said. The Dane went on to say how the former tennis ace is now trying to equip him with his ‘weapons’ as he asserted, “So he’s trying to give a little bit of a way of his weapons.”
