The 19th Asian Games are going on in full swing in Hangzhou, China. Sports persons from all over the continent have made it there in order to achieve glory. Despite the glorious nature of the tournament, one unfortunate incident became the subject of extensive discussion earlier. Korean tennis player Kwon Soon-woo was up against Thailand’s Samrej Kasidit in the men’s Singles tennis event. Despite the former being ranked more than 500 places above, he was defeated by Kasidit in a thrilling match. Subsequently, the South Korean star found himself embroiled in a huge controversy.
Kwon smashed the racket so hard onto the ground that it broke into pieces after the match. Additionally, he refused to shake hands with his opponent. In a strange – but not totally unexpected twist – well-meaning fans have some advice for his girlfriend.

Kwon’s girlfriend is Yubin, a Korean singer-songwriter and rapper. Earlier this month, she posted a selfie with Kwon on her official Instagram handle. After Kwon’s outburst, as the news went viral on social media, fans urged her to break up with the tennis player.
Commenting on their picture together on Instagram, one of the fans said, “Yu-bin, please break up and meet a gentleman, I’m really worried.” Further, another fan echoed this thought, saying, “Break up… That’s enough to hit people.”
Meanwhile, another Instagram user slammed Kwon’s act, terming him as a bad personality. The comment read, “Break up with Soon Woo Kwon. He’s a bad personality.”

The advice didn’t just stop at suggesting Yubin break up with Kwon. One of the fan’s reactions read, “People don’t change, think about it.” Again, another concerned fan urged Yubin to hurry up and run away from Kwon.
After playing the final point, Kwon continued to smash his racket multiple times on the court, leaving it in a sorry state. Despite that, his opponent still proceeded toward the net in order to shake hands. However, the South Korean star was too angry and ignored the show of sportsmanship.

This incident comes days after another South Korean athlete, Lee Hye-kyeong was disqualified from the Asian Games. The judo star was ejected from her semifinal encounter after slapping her Kazakh opponent Abiba Abuzhakynova during their bout. Meanwhile, Kwon’s actions have cast a dark cloud over South Korean tennis. It remains to be seen what punishment he gets for his uncontrolled act of anger, but one thing is for sure: he has lost his case in the court of public opinion.
