The current situation in Mexico has shocked one and all as it faces one of the worst natural disasters. Hurricane Otis made a destructive landfall, resulting in extremely high windspeeds and rainfall. It proved to be a devastating blow to the Mexican state of Acapulco, which was affected by this disaster. Acapulco is also home to one of the historic tennis tournaments, the Mexican Open. And one of the most successful players here has been Rafael Nadal. So the question lies in whether will he step up to save Acapulco from the grips of destruction.

Rafael Nadal has been a four-time champion in Acapulco, with his latest victory coming in 2022. In the past too, the Spaniard has stepped up to help a city get back to its feet following a natural disaster. Let’s find out if he can repeat it once again.

The saddening post by Rafael Nadal gave an indication that he might step up to help Acapulco stand up again as he did for Mallorca back in 2018. That year, flash floods affected his hometown and killed at least ten people. Subsequently, Nadal joined other people to help sweep away the water from the affected areas. The videos of such a kind gesture by the Spaniard went viral on social media.

Not just Rafael Nadal, but others in the tennis community have also voiced their opinions on this matter. The likes of Brad Gilbert and Jose Morgado have commented on this.
