In the world of tennis, it is not very often that a story from the film industry captures the spotlight, but that’s exactly what’s happening right now. Brooke Shields, the renowned actress and ex-wife of the ATP legend Andre Agassi, is making headlines with her upcoming documentary “Pretty Baby”. The documentary centers on Shields’ interpersonal experiences and the impact they had on her life. However, it also talks about some very sensitive issues and covers fairly controversial statements that are enough to shock the audience.

Recently, The Times and The Sunday Times on Twitter are covering a lot of content on what Shields documentary holds in stock for the audience. And it is here that her daughters, Rowan and Grier, stole the show when they explained why they will never watch the film that gave the documentary its name. As the documentary goes into great detail of Shields’ life, it is understandable that the audience will have to embrace themselves for some really intense moments.

Shields was only ten years old when her mother decided for her to pose fully nude for a Playboy publication. Shield’s relationship with her mother is described as problematic at its very least. At the age of eleven, a year later, she was signed up for the role of a child prostitute in Louis Malle’s 1978 film “Pretty Baby”. This is where the documentary gets its name from. However, that was not it. Throughout her pre-teenage and teenage, Shields went on to star in a series of “queasily sexual films”, including “The Blue Lagoon” and “Endless Love”.

When asked why they wouldn’t watch the movie “Pretty Baby”, Rowan exclaims, “It’s child pornography!”. “Would you have let us do that at 11?,” she asks her mother. For Shields, the choice is simple. She doesn’t have to think twice. However, knowing that her daughters now understand the full effect of what happened is definitely overwhelming for her.

She says, “No”, and her shoulders slouch in defeat.

The impact of these early experiences is the focus of the documentary, and it’s clear that Shields’ young daughters have strong feelings about it. Rowan and Grier, who are now teenagers, have grown up in a very different world from that of their mother’s.

However, this story isn’t unique to Brooke and her teenage daughters. It’s also an age-old story about the entertainment industry, across countries and the way women have been objectified on and off screen. Other than this, “Pretty Baby” also details Shields’ short-lived relationship with Agassi and the very messy ending to it, which would definitely interest tennis enthusiasts.
