In recent years, the name that has become synonymous with the Wimbledon crown has been Novak Djokovic. The Serbian legend looks almost invincible at the All England Club, with him bagging the Wimbledon title in its previous 4 editions. After winning the first 2 grand slams of the year, Djokovic is continuing his majestic form in majors, as he registered his 33rd consecutive match win at SW19 and booked his place in the semifinals.

However, amid that success, the tennis star has concerns too. Despite being one of the most successful players ever at Wimbledon, Djokovic has issues with the tournament’s Centre Court policies. And recently, he publicly expressed his massive disapproval!

The Serbian great is chasing his 5th Wimbledon title on the trot and a record-equaling 8th overall as he looks to become the man with the most Wimbledon titles in history along with Roger Federer. After clinching his historic 23rd grand slam at Roland Garros, Djokovic is showing no signs of stopping. The Djokovic juggernaut rolls on at SW19, as he outclassed Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals in four sets. However, the world number 2 didn’t shy away from voicing his grievance about Wimbledon’s decision to allow practice sessions for the players on Centre Court before the start of the tournament.

In the post-match press meet following his 4th round victory, Djokovic raised concerns about the condition of a ‘sensitive’ Centre Court at the All England Club and urged the organizers to address this situation. “Even though it was nice for us to get a chance in the last couple of years to practice on the Centre Court before the tournament starts, I have to say I’m not a fan of that.. I would rather have no practice at all on Center Court before the tournament starts.. I think that would help the court.. And it also is the most sensitive surface we have in the sport”, he said.

This is not the first time, though, that Novak Djokovic has complained about players being allowed to practice on the famed Centre Court. Back in 2022, too, he voiced some issues that concerned him.

Djokovic echoed similar sentiments at Wimbledon in 2022

In order to curb the injuries sustained by players in the earlier rounds, Wimbledon decided to put an end to its tradition and allow limited pre-tournament practice to players on Centre Court since last year. The 7-time Wimbledon champion was clearly not impressed with the idea of players stepping onto the Centre Court grass before the beginning of the coveted event. He even criticized the prospect of other players being able to train on the all-elusive show court before the defending champions themselves.

Djokovic made his stand clear yet again this year as he firmly established his opinion of the need to protect the sanctity of the Centre Court before the start of proceedings. But that clearly isn’t stopping the Serb from unleashing his best form on the hallowed turf of SW19!
