Kyrgios was to play a match against Lorenzo Sonego on the 20th of June. But the ‘Bad boy’ withdrew from the match, citing abdominal injury as the reason. In a statement released by the ATP, Kyrgios felt sorry for leaving the championships and said that he could not risk the upcoming Wimbledon.
The statement read, “I?m really sorry I?m going to have to withdraw from tonight’s match here in Mallorca. I have been playing a lot of great matches lately and unfortunately I woke up with a pain in my abs. I went to see the tournament doctor right away and he advised that I don’t play tonight. I really value the Mallorca Championships?but I will follow his advice as I don’t want to risk?Wimbledon next week.”
Given the record of injuries and trauma he sustained, Kyrgios’ future seems uncertain for now. If he does not play in the all-white tournament, he will lose precious time in his career and practice on the courts, even if he does not win. He will not have opportunities to learn from his mistakes and practice what he can do best on the court. How do you feel about the withdrawal? Do you think ‘The Wild thing’ makes it to Wimbledon?
