Entering the US Open as the 10th seed, Frances Tiafoe was being touted as one of the favorite Americans to clinch the major title on his home soil. Justifying all the hype surrounding his campaign, the American tennis star did well in reaching the quarterfinal round of the hard court major event. His stellar run in New York, however, has now come to an end at the hands of his compatriot, Ben Shelton.
In an intense All-American quarterfinal encounter, Tiafoe suffered defeat at the hands of the 20-year-old. For his troubles, Shelton has received the most challenging task in the tournament. The American will now have to square off against the ATP legend, Novak Djokovic, in order to proceed to the championship match. However, prior to his blockbuster match, the former World No. 35 received a major warning from his compatriot, ‘Bigfoe’.

Following Andy Roddick’s triumph in 2003, Ben Shelton has now become the youngest US Open semifinalist after prevailing in a four-set thriller, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2. Notably, the American world No. 10, Tiafoe was all praises for his compatriot despite getting outshined by him. ‘Bigfoe,’ however, is also aware that his 20-year-old opponent now has a big hurdle to cross in the next round.
In his post-match press conference, Tiafoe opened up about how it was going to be a really “good” matchup between Shelton and Djokovic. But, the American tennis star didn’t hold himself back from lauding the 36-year-old tennis legend’s dominant performances on the court. Tiafoe said, “He’s a tough customer.”
Meanwhile, ‘Bigfoe’ also issued a major warning to his US Open slayer, Shelton by saying, “Novak is going to make him play and make it super tough for him. We’ll see what happens.”

Tiafoe clearly warned his compatriot for his benefit. Moreover, Shelton also accepted the magnitude and toughness of his next challenge.
Shelton gets real on his chances against the ‘Djoker’
After his phenomenal win against ‘Bigfoe,’ Shelton acknowledged that he was aware of the tall task that awaited him in the next round of the tournament. In his on-court interview, the American tennis star candidly asserted that he was aware of his upcoming opponent. Djokovic has marked 23 major triumphs during his illustrious journey. Shelton said, “Yeah. He’s won maybe 23 of these…”
