The international indoor hard court team competition is scheduled to start next week with Team Europe vying for their fifth championship. However, Bjorn Borg’s side is already facing big issues as there is a big question mark surrounding their newest addition, Rune’s participation. The Danish sensation is apparently struggling with his back injury that also forced him to miss his recent Davis Cup match.

Rune’s mother, Aneke revealed that her son’s back is not in good shape and he also had large doses of ibuprofen that proved to be ineffective. Aneke also stated that the Dane’s injury is particularly hurting whenever he goes for a serve during his matches.

For this reason, his coach, Lars Christensen has modified Rune’s serve to reduce the strain on his back. Further, the 20-year-old player now needs to have an injection in his back to try to better treat the inflammation.

When did Rune pick up his serious back injury?

According to Aneke Rune’s recent disclosures, the Danish tennis star picked up his back injury during the Rome Masters. It later got worse during his campaign at the French Open when the current world No. 4 player was “swaying too much” on his serves. Due to the same, the young tennis star started experiencing significant discomfort and inflammation due to a bulged disc in his spine. However, according to the Tweet, Rune’s back injury shouldn’t pose long-term issues for him if he seriously addresses it as soon as possible.
