Rafael Nadal is set to return to professional tennis next year. The Spaniard has suffered a great deal from injuries which have put him out of the tour this year. Despite announcing his comeback next season, many are still wondering about how the ‘King of Clay’ will proceed. Patrick Mouratoglou, former coach of Serena Williams, recently shared his thoughts about the possible 2024 season for the King of Clay.

While many are wondering which tournament will be Nadal’s last, the Spaniard has already shared his dream. For him, he might say goodbye to the tennis world in the 2024 Olympics, partnering with the current Spanish number 1.

Rafa is aiming to return to the regular tour in the 2024 season. The former ATP world number 1 has been absent since January and has not recovered enough to play again on the tour this year. But he told his fans he would return for one last hurrah next year. Now, many are wondering how often Rafa would play next year. Among those is Serena Williams’ former coach, who discussed what the 2024 season of Rafael Nadal could look like.

When it comes to Rafa, I understand he doesn’t wanna feel that pressure, and he wants people to think he’s coming next year to say goodbye. But that’s not the type of guy he’s going to play fully. He will have enough time to practice. Historically, he’s a player that needs to play a lot. The real question mark is, how much injury-free will he be in 2024? If he doesn’t have pain and is free to play next year, there is no reason to think that he will not be dangerous/the favorite for Roland Garros.”

He also talked about his run earlier in the year: “Will he be ready to win the Australian Open? Probably, it’s gonna be short. He wants to see if he’ll be able to win a grand slam or if he’s far. If he’s far from the feeling that he can win a grand slam, he will probably stop. I don’t think he’ll play just to be number 20 in the world.”

As Mouratoglou discussed about the Spaniard’s 2024 season, Nadal himself has shared his plans for what could possibly be his last year on the ATP Tour.
