The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Southwest London already has a capacity of 42,000 spectators. Now, the Wimbledon authorities seem to have plans to expand their grounds. They have reportedly purchased land across Church Road, which will be used to build 38 grass courts and several public parks across the 73-acre area on Wimbledon Hill Road.
However, these controversial £200m expansion plans have resulted in protests from local residents who are claiming that the beautiful and historical landscape will be ruined following the construction. In addition to the residents, British actress Thelma Ruby has come forward to voice her disapproval of the expansion project due to the concerns.

The 98-year-old actress, who is known for her roles in Coronation Street from 1996, lives next door to the prestigious Club in London. Thelma Ruby lives in her penthouse that gives her a beautiful view of the Wimbledon Park Golf Club, which is now closed so that the planned construction may begin. Thus, the British actress is distraught over the expansion plans as they have ‘ruined’ the dream view her penthouse offered.
According to an exclusive report from the Sun, the Wimbledon Park Golf Club has agreed to a £65 million offer from the Wimbledon authorities due to which the 73-acre area has now been closed for the £200m construction.
Reminiscing about moments watching the serene landscape in the park, Thelma Ruby revealed that she is heartbroken as she is concerned about looking at the construction site across the street. She said, “At the moment, looking out of my window at my beautiful view is what keeps me going because I don’t go out so much.”
