Is Alcaraz's coach right to be worried about Medvedev, or is this just mind games?

Carlos Alcaraz is carefully approaching the Wimbledon semi-final. While over the years he has created a name for himself with mastery over each surface, this SF on the grass won’t be as easy as it looks. As the young Spaniard will face Daniil Medvedev, his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, recently shared his concern ahead of the most-awaited clash.

After being away from this sport for a few months, Alcaraz came back stronger, won the French Open title, and displayed how he has evolved as a tennis player. In a recent interview with ATP, even his coach shed light on the 21-year-old tennis player’s current standing in the tennis world. Ferrero stated, “He’s feeling very good. He’s grown into it against tough players. [Frances] Tiafoe and [Tommy] Paul are difficult.”

Further, he added, “He feels good and he’s managed to solve the problems that he’s faced, but now we’re very focused on the match with Medvedev, not thinking about the title. We can’t think much beyond Friday because that would be a mistake. Medvedev has earned the respect of all the players. So we’re approaching it with the utmost concern.”

For the second year in a row, the defending champion and Daniil Medvedev will square off in the Wimbledon semifinals. Their H2H stands at 4-2 in Alcaraz’s favor but their last major meeting at the US Open in 2023 ended in the Spaniard’s favor. Alcaraz has already won three Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces but Medvedev is hoping to make it to the Wimbledon final for the first time, and facing the obstacle of the reigning champion.

After his quarter-final victory, the Spaniard opened up about his semi-final competitor, hoping for the same result to replicate from last year’s Wimbledon semi-finals. Alcaraz stated, “Daniil’s a really great player. It’s the same semi-final as last year, so hopefully, I’m going to get the same result. He just won against Sinner, the best player right now, so he’s in really good shape and I have to play my best. I have to believe in myself and try to keep going. It’s going to be difficult, but I’m going to enjoy it.”

Have an interesting take?

In the Wimbledon semifinal, Medvedev revealed how it’s not going to be easy for him to get into the Wimbledon finals, after defeating Jannik Sinner to reach the semi-finals. On the other hand, last year, he faced defeat against the Spaniard, in the same spot, but this time, he is ready to go all against him.

He stated, “You know, whatever shot you hit, he can hit a winner from there. So you try to make his life difficult. You try to hit the shot as well as you can. Maybe he goes for it, but he cannot make it. But that’s pretty special because there are not many players like this. Carlos can do whatever from any position and that’s not easy to play against.”

Subsequently, it will be interesting to see what comes next for both semi-finals. Moreover, who do you think will make it to the Wimbledon finals, Daniil Medvedev or Carlos Alcaraz? Do let us know in the comment section below.
