"Despite rumored struggles, is Djokovic still the man to beat at Wimbledon 2024?"

Ana Ivanovic has made her stance clear on Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon dreams! The Serbian tennis pro, who is struggling with his form this season, has encountered multiple roadblocks in his aim to win a Grand Slam this season. Although he chose his tournaments selectively, it did not work in favor of Djokovic. Instead, more bad luck followed, as he picked up a knee injury before Wimbledon. During a time when the tennis world is raising questions about the possibility of winning a title this season, the former World No. 1, Ana Ivanovic has faith in her fellow countryman to achieve success on the grass!

During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Roland Garros champion (2008), opened up about Novak Djokovic’s upcoming Wimbledon participation. When the reporter asked him, “You know him well, do you think Djokovic can return to being the champion we have admired for almost twenty years?” the former Serbian player, Ivanovic, had an optimistic answer. “You can never rule it out. Despite the latest injury, I know he will come back fit and can definitely win more Grand Slams in the coming years,” Djokovic’s childhood friend, Ivanovic, declared.

The former WTA player who shares a close bond with Djokovic has always been a big fan. A few days ago, during an interview, she also reiterated how Djokovic wants to add more Grand Slams to his bucket. However, for Nole, the pathway has been hard.

It all started when Djokovic, during the four-hour-long fourth-round match at Roland Garros, tore his meniscus. Although he was able to play and win the match, later an MRI scan further intensified the extent of his injury. As a result, the former World No. 1, who had previously won three titles in the tournament, had to withdraw from the Grand Slam event even after qualifying for the quarterfinal. What followed next was surgery, treatment, and rigorous training to to be back on-court soon.

After sharing frequent updates on his recovery process on Instagram, Djokovic is back on the grass courts of Wimbledon once again! Although last year, he faced a final-round defeat to Carlos Alcaraz, this year he is ready to avenge himself in the green-courts of London. His aim is to add more to his already existing 7 Wimbledon titles. Interestingly, if he manages to earn another one, he will match Roger Federer’s record for Wimbledon title count!

Nevertheless, his lack of form this season has raised doubts about his performance on-court, and questions about his possible retirement have also surfaced. Some have pointed to his age as the reason, while others point to his declining form. Opinions about him winning a Grand Slam this season or in the upcoming one have differed. However, waving them away, Djokovic intends to win his 25th Grand Slam in 2024.

Earlier this season, he said, “I feel like I want to keep on going. When I feel that I am not able to compete at the highest level with the guys and be a contender for a Grand Slam title, then I’ll probably consider going into retirement.” Fast forward to the present, and he has already reached London to prepare for the much-awaited tournament at Wimbledon. However, there is one condition!

Although at first, Novak Djokovic was dubious about the possibility of playing at Wimbledon, his worries seem to have gone now. Gracing the courts of London, the Serbian tennis pro is back at Wimbledon! He is also preparing his best by participating in exhibition matches and testing his knee condition before jumping into the tournament.

Novak Djokovic previously confirmed that he wants to enter Wimbledon with the sole motive of winning. “I didn’t come here to play a few rounds. If I know I can play close to my maximum or at maximum, then I’ll play. If not, then I’ll give somebody else a chance to play. I really will only play if I know I am in a state which is good enough to go far in the tournament and fight for the title, so that’s the condition.” Much like Ivanovic, the tennis world also wants to witness Novak Djokovic back with his ‘A’ game on-court and win more Grand Slams!
