Who are you placing your bets on for the Wimbledon Championships this year? Novak Djokovic is just one title away from matching Roger Federer‘s astonishing 8 title triumphs at the All-England Club. However, the question of the hour is- Has he fully recovered from his knee injury? Recent reports suggest he’s trying his best to be ready for Wimbledon, but still, Federer’s former coach Ivan Ljubicic doesn’t feel too optimistic about the Serb’s chances this year.

The 37-year-old is currently going through a tough time! Although he has from his knee surgery recovered quite a bit now, is he fit to play a full tournament like Wimbledon? While the tennis world was busy finding answers to this question, the Serbian tennis star was dropped from world number one to number three. However, he has managed to overtake Carlos Alcaraz recently and become the new world number 2, but Ivan Ljubicic believes it’s going to be a Sinner-Alcaraz show in this year’s Wimbledon.

The 45-year-old Croatian coach was with Roger Federer from 2016 to 2022. During that time, the Swiss Maestro won three Grand Slam titles including one Wimbledon Championship. The vastly experienced coach spoke about the chances of Novak Djokovic during an interview with Sky Sports. He started by highlighting Jannik Sinner’s recent title triumph at the Halle Open, “Federer won many after conquering Halle, we will see if it is also Sinner’s turn.” Then he went on to add, “Sinner and Alcaraz seem to be fine and are the favorites.” But why did he snub Novak Djokovic?

The tennis world is divided about Novak Djokovic’s chances at Wimbledon

The Serbian tennis star has already made his intentions clear that he’d only choose to step onto the courts in Wimbledon if he’s fully fit. Although Ivan Ljubicic said that it’d be nice to see Novak Djokovic play in this tournament, he didn’t pick him as a favorite in the same. However, the 69-year-old Australian former tennis player, Paul McNamee cited the example of another 7-time Wimbledon champion to give a hint on Novak Djokovic’s chances at this historic tournament.

McNamee stated, “As a 7-time champ, he has every right to give himself all the time in the world. Remember, Sampras won Wimbledon one year without going once to the practice court. Only on grass can you do that. Only Djokovic could do the same.”

Did you know Novak Djokovic is the only player to beat Roger Federer multiple times at Wimbledon? He has achieved quite a few extraordinary feats in his illustrious career, so it won’t be surprising if he repeats the same this year as well. What are your thoughts on this?
