“I have to say after the birth of my son, I will put this in the second position today” – this was Lorenzo Musetti’s reaction after securing his spot in the SF of 2024 Wimbledon. The Italian defeated America’s Taylor Fritz in a five-set thriller to become the fourth Italian man to feature in the SF of this iconic tournament. While his impressive performance at SW19 has drawn in praise from several bigwigs of the tennis world, his girlfriend, Veronica Confalonieri, accompanied him for a special ride!

Confalonieri is a resident of Milan, Italy. Although her family is Italian, she was born in France where she completed her formal education. She has been working with Sky Sports Italy since 2019 and has a keen interest in modeling and the fashion industry. Both Musetti and Confalonieri announced their relationship publicly in 2022 through an Instagram post. Since then, the couple have been spotted multiple times showcasing their support and love for each other through their social media posts. 

Veronica even attended an event organized by Super Tennis with his boyfriend and in that event, Musetti won the 2022 Best Italian Player award. Even here at Wimbledon, she was spotted celebrating Musetti’s recent triumph against Taylor Fritz with a picture of them sitting together in front of a table. The couple wore white outfits and captioned that picture with Italian words “fine della gionata” which translates to “End of the day“.

End of the day, but not the end of the journey! Musetti, a relative newcomer to Grand Slam quarter-finals, stunned 13th seed Fritz in a thrilling five-set match to reach his first major semi-final. The Italian, seeded 25th, displayed remarkable resilience to overcome a rollercoaster contest and book his place in the last four. Lorenzo has a mammoth task up ahead.

Musetti says he “never stopped believing” 

In November last year, the couple revealed that they were expecting a child, and then in March 2024, Veronica gave birth to their first child. Initially, they were a bit surprised and scared at the same time with her pregnancy. Confalonieri felt this may hinder his career and he may feel homesick. However, Musetti was quick to realize he had to now find a perfect balance between his on-court and off-court life.

“It has been almost a year, really challenging, with a lot of new experiences, with the pregnancy of my girlfriend, and becoming a father, a lot of things happened and changed so probably I needed more time to find balance on everything but I am really happy because I never stopped working and never stopped believing,” said Musetti in a recent interview. 

Veronica has been one of his biggest supporters and has always encouraged him to look for greater heights in his career. He believes the birth of his son (Ludovico) is the biggest victory in his life and for that, he wants to thank his girlfriend. Will ‘lady luck‘ see him through into the finals of Wimbledon?
