Will Djokovic's potential Wimbledon win cement his GOAT status, or is Alcaraz the new king?

The most awaited final clash between Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz is here! When the pair fought last year at Wimbledon, Alcaraz prevailed. But perhaps Djokovic took an oath to take his revenge, and he is back with possibly more energy. As the duo get on with their contest, many would be curious to know the lump sum amount that one of them will be taking home along with the title. Spoiler alert: This year’s prize money reflects a nearly 15% bump in pay from 2023!

With its staggering pool of a total of $63.51 million (or approximately £50) in prize money, Wimbledon has once again shone brightly among the most prestigious tennis tournaments of the season. “With this year’s Championships only days away, I am delighted to announce a record prize money fund of £50 million…” declared Debora Jevans, the chairperson of the All England Club, before the start of the tournament. Not to forget the $7 million addition to the money compared to last year as well ($56, 600,000 or £44.7 million). Yesterday, Barbora Krejciková clinched her maiden Grand Slam at Wimbledon and bagged the same amount that either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz will earn today.

With a rise of approximately 15% from 2023 ($2.97 million or £2.35 million), the Men’s Wimbledon champion will have a little over $3.4 million, or €2.7 million, to his name. Unbelievable, right? Wait till you hear the mind-blowing amount that the runner-up will also earn.

If one of them is not taking home the trophy, they are certainly taking £1.4 million or ($1.78 million) by just reaching the final at the All England Tennis Club. This has also faced a substantial rise (14.9%) from 2023 ($2.74 million), with the potential to lighten up the mood of the runner-up in the event.

Have an interesting take?

“I really wanted to lift this trophy one day, and then to be able to do it is a great feeling,” Alcaraz exclaimed in joy after winning his maiden title in Paris. Apart from the honor and prestige of his victory, the win was worth $2.6 million in prize money as well. On the other hand, his opponent, Alexander Zverev, who was vying for his career’s first Grand Slam, earned approximately $1.3 million in prize money. Besides, after Alcaraz’s victory, he made it to the ninth position of the all-time career prize money list as well.

According to the ATP tour, he boasts an impressive $31.57 total career prize, but that might soon take another jump after today’s final event. Although, with two titles this season, he has already won $4.5 million this year; we are all sure that there’s more to come. So, keep an eye out at the tournament, as it is soon going to heavily impact either Novak Djokovic’s or Carlos Alcaraz’s career’s total prize money.
