Andy Murray is going to leave no stone unturned before retiring! Injuries have often halted Murray’s career – be it his back, ankle, or leg, the former World No. 1 has battled through every challenge and emerged victorious. However, his two-decade reign in tennis is now coming to an end. Nevertheless, before it does, Murray is not going to let an injury define the last moments of his career. Keeping the tension alive about his last Wimbledon appearance, fans are now drowning in sadness, realizing that they are currently witnessing Murray’s final few days in his career.
With the aim of swiftly transitioning from the grass courts of the Queens Club Championships to Wimbledon, Murray started hitting his racquet there in London. However, the two-time Wimbledon champion could not move towards his aim as an injury struck him hard. Groaning in back and right leg pain, the Brit had to put his racquet to rest temporarily. However, a week has passed since that, and Murray is still struggling to get back in his form.
With the Wimbledon starting from July 1st, fans are eagerly waiting to hear his decision about his participation in the tournament. Murray, who had back surgery after his injury, has still yet to decide. An X user confirmed today (27th June), that Murray “will make his decision on Wimbledon as late as possible because the rehabilitation is going “really well”. The hope is to play Wimbledon and the Olympics before retiring.”

However, he has made up his mind about his retirement after the Summer Olympics, reiterating, “Murray, who returned to the practice court yesterday, spoke at length about the tricky position he is presently in: “If I’m able to play at Wimbledon and if I’m able to play at the Olympics, that’s most likely going to be it.” With the two news surfacing on social media, fans are overwhelmed about seeing him play for the last time at Wimbledon, a place where he has created magic and history at the same time!
Fans are “not ready” to see Andy Murray retire from tennis
After his Indian Wells defeat in March, the 37-year-old player said, “I am planning on finishing in the summer. I don’t know what more I am supposed to say.” However, as questions regarding it arose again, Murray further emphasized, “Once I have made the decision, I have expressed that, and no one is listening to it.” As his retirement draws closer, his statements are becoming a reality rather than just a future plan. A fan’s statement on X, “it’s sad tyst he’s actually retiring,” also underscored the same emotion.
Another fan, heartbroken by Murray’s decision to retire, wrote, “😭not ready 💔.” Murray is a significant member of the “Big 4,” in tennis, along with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. While Federer retired in 2022, Nadal is on the verge of doing the same. Therefore, as Murray, who has remained at the top for 41 weeks, is also retiring, he is leaving his fans teary-eyed.
To another fan, this is simply unbelievable. Writing in awe, the fan declared, “Finding it so hard to accept that we are finally coming to the end…🥺😭.” However, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, Murray’s journey in tennis, especially this year, has not been entirely smooth. Struggling with an ankle injury in Miami and then his recurring back pain (which he got surgically repaired back in 2013) Murray has significantly struggled with his form this year.

However, before retiring, he has his vision clear. “I feel like I deserve the opportunity to try to play there again. And I want to have that opportunity, so I’m going to give it as long as I can to see how well I recover,” Murray said.
Another fan simply wrote, “one last ride Andy, one last ride.” Murray’s Wimbledon journey has been incredible. He made history on the lush green courts by being the first British player to win a singles match (in 77 years) at Wimbledon back in 2013. Although he has struggled to get past the second round last year, this year he is hopeful of winning one last trophy at the event.

One ardent fan of Murray wrote, “I’m begging the tennis gods to not take this farewell away from him. Let him do this. Give him the health and strength to do this. He’s not asking for more.” Andy Murray, who previously added how he doesn’t want to finish his career’s last match, injured and being hardly “competitive,” the Brit further revealed how he regrets not winning a grass-court title before going to the tournament.
Andy Murray is not ready to put his racquet to rest once and for all without giving his best to the sport. As he moves toward his goal for the season, fans are optimistic about seeing his one last dance at Wimbledon!
