Celebrating success is fine, but it is more important to take lessons from failures! Carlos Alcaraz was spotted celebrating his third Grand Slam title with his friends in Ibiza. After that, he returned to defend his title at the Queen’s Club Championship but failed even to reach the quarterfinals. Now, it’s time for him to pick up where he left off last year at Wimbledon. The 21-year-old Spaniard began his title defense in elegant style by defeating Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal in three sets. Speaking of elegance, Alcaraz recently cited the ever-elegant Roger Federer while explaining his secret to success at such a young age.
Winning 14 titles, including three Grand Slam triumphs within just six years of making his debut as a pro tennis player, is no joke! How did Carlos Alcaraz manage to achieve these extraordinary feats? The Spaniard reveals that his 50 career losses are as important as his 182 wins. Reflecting on the mindset of a champion and how he approaches challenges, Alcaraz said, “All I can think about at the moment is ‘Go for it’. If you miss, you miss. Don’t hold back, don’t regret it. Play positive, play aggressive, play your game.”
He strongly believes it’s okay to miss a few chances. “It even happened to Federer when he was 40-15 on his own serve in the fifth set and lost [to Djokovic in the epic 2019 Wimbledon final]. The best players in every sport have lost in big moments. But if you try and miss, you’re going to learn from that experience.” According to Carlos Alcaraz, if he hadn’t lost the matches he did in 2022, he would never have achieved what he has so far in his career. “I learned from every loss. You have to learn from the moments you have,” Alcaraz said in an interview with The Times.

In the 2019 Wimbledon final, Roger Federer was so close yet so far from lifting his ninth Wimbledon title. He gave away two match points while serving for the match at 8-7, (40/15) in a five-set thriller. Novak Djokovic defeated him 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-6(4), 4-6, 13-12(8), and Federer literally ‘collapsed in tears‘ in the locker room after that devastating loss.
After the match, the Swiss Maestro said, “It’s about trying to win Wimbledon, trying to have good runs here, playing in front of such an amazing crowd in this Centre Court against players like Novak and so forth. That’s what I play for.” Now, he has retired, and it’s time for the next generation to carry forward the legacy of this historic tournament. What does Carlos Alcaraz have to say about this challenge on the grass court?

Alcaraz aims to become one of the best in history and he has already started to dream something even “bigger“. During a recent interview with CNN Sport at a Babolat event, Carlos Alcaraz stated, “I want to sit [at] the same table as the ‘Big Three’ [Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer], legends of our sports.” He is now targeting a Roland-Garros and Wimbledon double. If he manages to win the title at Wimbledon, he’d surely register his name alongside Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, and the ‘Big Three’ on this illustrious list.
