Among them was the rivalry between Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras. The two were involved in many mouth-watering battles that went either way. One such battle was at the 1999 ATP World Tour Finals. A recent clip on Twitter showing the action from that match on its 24th anniversary was enough to trigger nostalgia in several fans.

The two played in the final of that tournament. Although Agassi was the favorite to win the title, Sampras caused a massive upset to clinch the title. Here’s how the fans reacted as old memories resurfaced.

Sampras enjoyed a healthy record against Agassi. In the 34 matches played between them, Sampras won 20 of them. A few hours ago, Tennis TV shared a clip of the 1999 ATP Finals summit clash between Agassi and Sampras. Fans reminisced about those days as the clip went viral.

Reacting to the clip, one of the fans said, “Nobody will ever play like Pete.”

Another fan reminisced about their battles, saying, “Thanks for the reminder of how great their battles were!”

Further, another Twitter user had a similar opinion and said, “Best players ever. I love both.”

One of the fans was in awe of Sampras’ performance in that match, saying, “Pete was in a zone in this match….the level. The court was so quick …”

Lastly, one Twitter user compared that era to the current one and revealed, “That net gameplay will never be seen again.”

In a nail-biting match, Sampras got the better of his compatriot in three sets. Despite their intriguing rivalry, Agassi once made a shocking statement about his battles against Sampras.

During an interview with Vijay Amritraj in 2018, Agassi opened up about his career and achievements. Additionally, he also revealed how Sampras’ presence impacted his career.

Talking about this, he said, “Well, my career would have been way better off without Pete for sure.” The two had different playing styles and personalities and it clearly worked in favor of Sampras. Nonetheless, both Agassi and Sampras will go down as legends of American tennis. Their achievements and presence on the court can only be rivalled by the ‘Big Three’.
