Rennae Stubbs talks about the criticism surrounding Jannik Sinner following his win against Holger Rune at the ATP Finals
The criticism from Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs addressed an issue that arose during a recent match involving Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune. She expressed her disbelief at suggestions that said that Sinner should have deliberately lost to Rune which would have knocked the Serbian Novak Djokovic out of the tournament.
Talking about the importance of the match, she highlighted Sinner’s track record of 0-2 against Rune. With Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal’s eventual exits from the sport looming, Stubbs identified Sinner and Rune as crucial figures in the future Grand Slam competitions.
“I’m like, first of all, he’d never beaten Holger Rune in his career. He was 0-2. I know you’re like only two losses. That’s big. Yeah. You know, when you’re talking about the next-gen of great players, those two are in that category of the two players once Novak is gone and Nadal is gone next year. It’s like those two will be competing without question for grand slams. So why would you tank a match to a guy that you’ve never beaten when you’re playing arguably your best tennis? Yeah, right,” said Stubbs during her podcast.
Thus, Rennae Stubbs gave her verdict on her tweet that supported Jannik Sinner for winning his match against Holger Rune and making his way into the finals of the ATP Finals. With a great future ahead for the two, the rivalry is already shaping big and these two will be looking to make the future of the game great. Not only this but she also made a bold call in support of the Italian player.
